We can't let him go for less than £55m because we will then be looked at as a soft touch, and we will get poorer offers for the likes of Robinson and any future players.

Joao seems to answer at the beginning but then ignores the German reporter afterwards.

Romano really, really desperate for this to happen, so much so he'll lie/omit details.

A)  When can deals be done?  (I assume right now?)

B)  When does transfer period end?  Last day/time in which a deal can be done?

Thx y'all......

'Palhinha wants to join Bayern'
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg on Sky Sports News:
"It's been such a tough negotiation with Fulham again. We cannot believe what Fulham are doing here in Germany.
"Joao Palhinha is still plan A for Bayern Munich, but they have set clear limits. Nothing has changed on that. Max Eberl led the negotiations.
"Right now, we understand they have offered around 45m euros with add-ons included. Palhinha can sign a contract until 2028 but now he is with the Portugal squad at Euro 2024.

"His big desire is to join Bayern Munich. He wants an agreement between the clubs.
"Bayern won't go to 55m euros. That is too much. There is room to increase by maybe 2m or 3m with add-ons included. But if Fulham stay firm and say they want 60m euros then I'm completely convinced that this deal will fail.'

Well maybe he could get his reporting even slightly correct. We don't want 60 million euros. The price is 60 million pounds. Big difference. If the deal is definitely off at 60 million euros even further from being done when it's £60 million. So sick of these pr*!s.

What I love is that they seem to think Fulham are the ones that will be gutted if the deal is off like we are the ones somehow missing out. We don't want to frigging sell him!! He's our best player and we'd prefer he played for us for the next 5 years essentially pretty much guaranteeing us staying in the prem and potentially if we sign well getting us into Europe. If he goes for nothing in 5 years all of that is worth way more than £60 million so if they don't pay up they are missing out not us. This isn't Kane with a frigging year left on his contract and they don't seem to get that.

Also a drop in valuation of £20 million in a frigging year. That is what no one can believe not Fulham's behaviour. With that rate of depreciation he would be worth £20 million in another year and £0 when he was turning 32?! What planet are they living on. Possibly £5 million for one year older but that is offset by the contract extension.

Just for Joao s sake and in no way our own as we'd rather he stayed I'd sell at £55 million but we had better not go any lower on this. As someone else has said he we do we lose all power/credibility in future transactions. If not let it fall through, we'll have to turn him around and look forward to another 5 years of defensive masterclasses. Boo hoo for us.

I think you're wrong, continually buying players and never selling them is not a way to run a football club,
You don't want to sell Joao but I guarantee you will be on here complaining if we don't sign 3 or 4 new players !
Palace buy and sell, Brighton buy and sell and we should buy and sell,
£45 million for Joao at his age is a fair price, I'm only surprised that we haven't enquired about a couple of their U23 players as part of any deal.

Tbf I wouldn't be upset about £45m upfront ideally with add ons, but thats not been offered yet. Thats a good return historically given his age, I figured wed accept between 40 and 50m but theyre still messing about below that so stuff em

Agree with this £45m + £5m in addons definitely seems like it would get the job done. 50m euros + addons might even get it done but they are offering 45m euros including addons right now so it's likely something around £35m + addons which is well off it.

I disagree, we can't let him go for less than £50m. If you look at what we accepted 1 year ago for a player who recently signed a new deal, you can't take less than £50m. But I think he's worth every bit of £55m.

You should keep your best player and add to them, that's the only way you challenge further up the table.

When people have mentioned  We need to buy and sell perhaps munichs young players in exchange but I wonder how good is our scouting network we aren't buying unknown hems which other lower clubs do.

Brighton are known for only accepting the right fee for their players and it is always top end. At his age and simply because he is so desperate to go and the potential issues this causes I'd sell if £55 minimum. We should be in a brilliant position FFP wise after the 30th of June having managed things so well the last two years and are under zero pressure to accept anything less.

£45 million is not enough for the highest tackling defensive midfielder in Europe by a mile the last two seasons especially when they are in such short supply and he has a 5 year contract. He is probably top 3 for defensive midfielders in Europe. If it was a fair price they wouldn't have offered £60 million just a year ago. A year doesn't warrant a £15 million drop.

Reports suggesting Everton want anything between £50 million to £90 million for Onana to let him go! Yes he's only 22 but literally half the player Joao is and not seen anything to suggest that he'll reach his level.

Didn't we agree £55m last year?
And surely we'd be prepared to take at least a little discount on that with the player now being a year older.
In any case all these figures are just unconfirmed rumours.

I do agree with the comments above that the Pletterberg/Romano Twitter posts are borderline absurd and pretty disgusting. They truly are just tools of the agents trying to force a deal to get some commission.

All the reports I have read have read this year suggest around £60 million agreed last year:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/06/25/bayern-munich-maintain-pursuit-fulham-joao-palhinha/

Considering the price of defensive midfielders last year (although a little younger) I thought that was pretty low. As in my post fair enough for £5 million off in a year so around the £55 mark if he's that desperate to go.

Kalvin Philips went to City for €50m and he's absolute shite so I'd expect no less than £55m-£60m for Joao.

Kalvin Phillips was 3 years younger (26) at the time than Palhinha will be when the season starts and was a very highly rated up-and-comer.

As I put on the original thread on Palhinhas market value:

"When I put my rational brain on and try to think of another 29+ year old CDM who's gone for anything north of £40m before. I can only think of a handful.

Casemiro billed as one of if not THE best CDM in the world at the time went to Utd from Madrid for £60m at 30 years old

Fabinho went for 40m from Liverpool at 30 - but he moved to Saudi...so there's that - they overpaid.

Paulinho transferred from Barcelona to Guangzhou Evergrande for £42 million in 2018 at the age of 30.

Nemanja Matic - Moved from Chelsea to Manchester United for £40 million in 2017 at 28 years old

Other than that I can't think of many more?

And the thing all these had was prior proof of performing at a high level in the Champions League...and/or they moved to somewhere that overpaid (china and Saudi)

Now sure - Declan Rice went for over 100m but he was 24.
Caicedo also went for tons - but he was 21!
And sure - inflation etc. But....

In reality - whilst he might be worth over 50m to us in our minds, there isn't much precedent for that sort of fee being charged for someone in the CDM role at 29 and up - and basically none I can think of who hasn't been a regular champs league player before.

We did well to get 55m for him last year - this year anything above 45m + potential add-ons would still be very good market value historically. Even 40m would be more than most CDMs his age go for. We might not like it, we might all want more, and heck, we can choose to keep him if we don't want to sell for that amount. But anywhere between 40-50 would still be historically speaking ,a good amount still.

I disagree, any transfer more than 2 years ago is irrelevant. Prices have significantly increased over the last 5 years, also Palhinha looks like the kind of player that will perform at this level deep into his 30s.

Bayern Munich set the price last summer around £60m, so to come in £15m lighter after one season is too much of a drop.

I think £50m with aggressive add-ons of £5m is fair and I think they'll actually do that.

And if he stays, then even better, I would prefer him to stay for the next 5 years and we add players around him to help challenge for a top 7 place

Quote from: demeant0r on June 25, 2024, 11:32:48 PMKalvin Philips went to City for €50m and he's absolute shite so I'd expect no less than £55m-£60m for Joao.

You can disagree but it doesnt change the fact its seemingly never happened, even in the last 2 years, for CDMs his age not being signed from regular champs league clubs.

Fwiw, According to the ol chatgpt regarding price changes for players over 29 the last 2 years:

For players over the age of 29, football transfer prices have not experienced the same level of inflation as those for younger players. While the overall market has seen significant increases, the inflation rate for players aged 30 or over has been notably lower. Over the past decade, the annual inflation rate for transfer prices of players in this age group has averaged only 3.6%, which is substantially less compared to younger age groups [[❞]](https://football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/mr/mr82/en/) [[❞]](https://football-observatory.com/Inflation-in-the-football-players-transfer-market).

Additionally, the post-pandemic period saw the biggest deflation for players over 29. Clubs are increasingly focusing on younger talent, often seen as better investments for the future

In conclusion, while the football transfer market as a whole has seen rising prices, players over 29 have not experienced the same level of price inflation, reflecting a market preference for younger talent.

So make of that what you will.

Also It was widely reported as £55m not 60m at the time and even this year the reports ive seen have referred to us saying we want that  same 55 (though this youd think would just be high ball tactics)

As I say what I or we'd want or think about his 'potential' ability to maintain form at an older age, doesn't change the reality that in the context of all former transfer prices, for a player in Palhinhas position (29, cdm, not playing for a champs league club for years or even being an established national team starter ) £40-50m range would be considered very high, and therefore, really not bad business.

Again. Id love for us to hold out for more or keep him if we're really not happy but just looking objectively at the facts here.

Fulham are the latest club to be linked with Vitória Guimarães star Jota Silva.

Guimarães Digital today writes that the Whites are 'studying the possibility' of making a bid for the winger.

It's said that Silva, who was recently linked to West Ham United, has 'never hidden the desire' to move to the Premier League, having ruled out approaches from Saudi Arabia.

Fulham then stand out as a potential destination for him. It's said they're analysing the situation, and João Palhinha's sale could leave them in a more comfortable position to make the investment.
Silva has already rejoined Vitória Guimarães' squad for the next season, and the report claims that any movements are only expected to happen in the first weeks of July, as the market still seems cold during the Euros.

The winger stood out in Portugal last season with 15 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances. Still, that was not enough for him to be part of the national team squad. Local reports claim he has a release clause worth €20m, so Fulham can surely afford that, probably even before Palhinha's sale.

alfie

Well that's about 50 players we are linked with.

I expect we'd settle for £45m plus £5m in bonuses, so long as they were easily achievable.

I would hope that would be an absolute minimum.I wonder if they have any players that we might be interested in.Could sweeten the transfer.
