Quote from: SerbianLad on July 31, 2025, 06:04:03 PMEven better question, would you prefer to have Sunderland's current squad or our current squad.? For all their signings, we still have a much better squad than them.

Your taking things out of context now.
Of course not,the whole idea of my original post,is they are getting in the targets they are after.
Yet all you hear about with us is blah  blah...
Nelson signing now gone quiet, other rumours the same
According to an ITK on here,he was practically in the door last week.🤔.
Of ours they are finding it easier to get their targets in because:

a) they are targeting players who aren't as high profile as our targets
b) their team was really poor prior to this window so anyone they sign can be offered pretty much a guaranteed starting place which isn't the case with us. Would any one of the players we were linked with be a guaranteed starter for us? I think not. Will most of Sunderland's signings start for them? I think so, yes.
Once again Granit Xhaka.

So, for you Raheem Sterling isnt a name big enough but Xhaka is?

On top of that Xhaka is two years older.

But we haven't signed Sterling.😆

Palahinha gone to Spurs then, loan with a view to buy. ::angry::

The fact Spurs missed out on Gibbs-White and have now resorted to Joao Palhinha is a disgrace. Once again Levy has completely messed up the transfer window as he has done for years. I can barely see a top 8 finish and a mediocre cup run. Ridiculous!

Can't stand Spurs - hope we hijack the JP deal and they have an even worse league campaign than last season.
Zero chance Palhinha chooses us over Tottenham as they have Champions League, we have nothing.

Not sure why they think Palhinha is the backup option, they play completely different roles.

Sadly, because I bloody hate Spurs with a passion, but them signing Joao Palhinha makes them a Top 6 side this season,
Shows how highly Thomas Frank regarded J.P when he was playing for us.
Gutted he's gone there 🤢

100% with you on the Spurs subject! Opinion on Palhinha will always be tainted now if he goes there.

So we are now into August and still just a back up keeper signed. I know we need to be patient, I understand the difficulties, I am aware other clubs outside the top six or seven have similar problems. But by heck this is sooooooo frustrating!

So I'm led to believe he had zero interest in coming back to Fulham, apparently still holds a bit of a grudge for not allowing him to join BM the first time.
Story of my life

Sadly she wasn't

@jolslover

FWIW I mentioned Chiesa in the 'who would I buy' thread a few weeks back

Think he would be a great signing if we could pull him off.. some real Champions League quality on the wings and I remember us being linked before he went to Liverpool (move wasn't realistic then but now we stand a chance of getting him)

27 with some serious accolades.. 2020 Euros team of the tournament, 2021 Serie A team of the season, 2021 Pallone Azzurro for best Italian footballer and premier league winners medal

hahaha yea his grudge really shows when he's liking and commenting hearts on Fulham's socials constantly. He went to Spurs because of Champions League, grudge stuff is a complete lie.

Liking the idea of Chiesa, Celtic would be the easy route for him, champs league while dominating teams every week domestically on a decent wage, might appeal...

But London life for an Italian? Maybe we can tempt him, could be an exciting option.

An interesting quote about him on Liverpool sub reddit

He needs to have a "Salah" pre pre season (get himself as fit as possible & show some tenacity & aggression in his position)

Then come back into the full squad for a proper pre season with the squad

He was absolute class for Italy (when Klopp wanted him & his price was like £70m). He looked genuinely happy to join Liverpool, has fit in will with the squad,

Had a taste of the Premier League (reminds me of Pires 1st season getting bullied & it was just too quick for him - he caught the pace on the 2nd season & was brilliant for Arsenal)

In the games he's played (one magnificent touch & nutmeg out wide on the touchline) shows he has the ability. He's scored, he's had assists & pre assists, hit the post etc

Didn't look flustered when shooting, forced saves out of GK's & that led to goals

I recall him chasing down a Newcastle player in the final & slide tackling him (Beardsley style) getting the ball, up on his feet & accelerating away

There's a great player there, maybe Slot needs to go watch some if his Juve & Italy matches

He wrecked England in the last Euro finals

Not really sure what the hell Everton are doing. They seem to run their entire recruitment out in the public eye. Bidding for players left right center.

I mean, if we were actually doing some recruitment, we might struggle to keep it out the public eye as well.

Lol.. every player we sign is mentioned publicly, arguably for months, before we sign them.

All this talk of us doing things in quiet. Bunch of crap.

We're as bad as anyone.

Explain Cuenca or Lecomte then?

Both were in the press before they signed.

Genuinely a complete lie, the first mention of Cuenca to Fulham was Romano confirming the deal was done. All of the replies are people completely in shock.

Adama to Fulham was another with zero mention until Rutzler confirmed it was just about done.

Save for the signings from huge teams or certain agents, our business is done under the radar.

Romano is a journalist. You're proving my point.

There have been very few signings that we've made as a club that have been announced by the club and we had no prior knowledge at all they were happening.

If a journalist gets wind of it and publishes it beforehand then that's news published before the club announced it.

Lecomte was in the news days if not a week at the bare minimum before signing.

Now, I get it, that's close.. but it's still not managed to be kept quiet, for whatever reasons.

The club also happens to be very slow at announcing signings.

For every Cuenca and Lecomte, there are Manor Solomon, Justin Kluivert, Smith Rowe, Sterling stories that drag on and on and on and then become reality.

Often the press know months before something is done.

Yes an agent may play a part, but that just plays into why it's public beforehand.

No, that wasn't your point. You said

"every player we sign is mentioned publicly, arguably for months, before we sign them."

No you're trying to move the goalposts to act like a journalist announcing someone signed an hour before the club does is the same thing.

You can just admit you're wrong and move on.

Really annoying this is. I hate Spurs so much! Hope he gets really stuck in and collects a couple of red cards and a few suspensions.

Why? He did his best for us. His stock was high and one of Europe's big sides came in for him. That hasn't worked out. He's lost time and isn't getting younger. Joining a club that's in Europe next year makes perfect sense.

Soooo...

Have we signed anyone yet?

I'm sorry but that's pure fantasy island stuff, you've never met him in your life and nobody you know has ever met him in their life,
Pure Fantasy.

Yes - I'm sure he had zero interest in coming back. I realised that from the start, so personally not that bothered that he joined Spurs (even though I only hate Spurs slightly less than Chelsea!)
