Not really sure what the hell Everton are doing. They seem to run their entire recruitment out in the public eye. Bidding for players left right center.

I mean, if we were actually doing some recruitment, we might struggle to keep it out the public eye as well.

Lol.. every player we sign is mentioned publicly, arguably for months, before we sign them.

All this talk of us doing things in quiet. Bunch of crap.

We're as bad as anyone.

Explain Cuenca or Lecomte then?

Both were in the press before they signed.

The first time anyone know about Cuenca was an out of the blue "here we go" by Romano and he'd signed within a week. No links to him before that or anything so it only got out because the deal was agreed

btffc

Berge was also fairly quickly done. Think less than a week from getting in the press to a signing. Though we had been linked to him the previous year.

Genuinely a complete lie, the first mention of Cuenca to Fulham was Romano confirming the deal was done. All of the replies are people completely in shock.

Adama to Fulham was another with zero mention until Rutzler confirmed it was just about done.

Save for the signings from huge teams or certain agents, our business is done under the radar.

Yeah, there hadn't been a link to Berge all summer (it had been all McTominay/Andre) and out of nowhere we got a tweet from Rutzler saying he was traveling for a medical and a few minutes after that Romano tweeted "here we go". Three days later the club formally announced it.

First State

What ever happened to James McAtee? I'm sure he's the type of signing many of us could get behind.

Literally Fulham rumours on this page...if you search through all the Sunderland being better than us at transfers talk.

I couldn't give two hoots about Sunderland  OK.
I was just using them as an example that the players theyv'e gone after, whether they are High profile or low profile, they've managed to get them
Enough said on the subject,as some of you just like to argue for the sake of it.
Two Hoots? Owls? You're not going on to Sheff Wednesday now are you?

He's more 10 than wing and City wants 35m+. We have Josh King. McAtee is not necessary.

Forest just had a 25m offer turned down for Mctee and willock suffered an injury in pre season and was carried off.

Romano is a journalist. You're proving my point.

There have been very few signings that we've made as a club that have been announced by the club and we had no prior knowledge at all they were happening.

If a journalist gets wind of it and publishes it beforehand then that's news published before the club announced it.

Lecomte was in the news days if not a week at the bare minimum before signing.

Now, I get it, that's close.. but it's still not managed to be kept quiet, for whatever reasons.

The club also happens to be very slow at announcing signings.

For every Cuenca and Lecomte, there are Manor Solomon, Justin Kluivert, Smith Rowe, Sterling stories that drag on and on and on and then become reality.

Often the press know months before something is done.

Yes an agent may play a part, but that just plays into why it's public beforehand.

As ever the players we sign won't be the names we are being told about now. It will be a Rutzler or Ornstein announcement out of nowhere with a name we haven't had up to now. The club keep it all very quiet.

Quote from: FFC1987 on July 31, 2025, 10:06:37 AMTabby, aren't ESR and Bassey prime examples of exciting players who showed potential but peated out a bit so we're rekindling as well though? or was that your point?

To quote myself:

ESR and Bassey are decent examples of players that we have signed recently that are a bit more exciting.

They are still young enough that they should be a couple of years off of entering their prime with potential to improve. With a lot of our current targets we are talking about 'what if we can get them back to their form from a couple of years ago' instead of looking at their future. Huijsen, Elanga and Isak are all players that got sold from their clubs for about £15 million at around 20 after not making the cut.

Isak cost Newcastle a bit more than £15m. He was a regular at his club, Real Sociedad and cost £63m.

Sociedad got him for €15 million when he was 20. He was rated as not good enough at Dortmund after being hailed as the next big thing when they bought him.

Fair enough. I'd assumed we were talking about Premier League clubs.

Your taking things out of context now.
Of course not,the whole idea of my original post,is they are getting in the targets they are after.
Yet all you hear about with us is blah  blah...
Nelson signing now gone quiet, other rumours the same
According to an ITK on here,he was practically in the door last week.🤔.
Of ours they are finding it easier to get their targets in because:

a) they are targeting players who aren't as high profile as our targets
b) their team was really poor prior to this window so anyone they sign can be offered pretty much a guaranteed starting place which isn't the case with us. Would any one of the players we were linked with be a guaranteed starter for us? I think not. Will most of Sunderland's signings start for them? I think so, yes.
Once again Granit Xhaka.

So, for you Raheem Sterling isnt a name big enough but Xhaka is?

On top of that Xhaka is two years older.

SP

This Spurs fan isn't impressed with JP:

The fact Spurs missed out on Gibbs-White and have now resorted to Joao Palhinha is a disgrace. Once again Levy has completely messed up the transfer window as he has done for years. I can barely see a top 8 finish and a mediocre cup run. Ridiculous!

Can't stand Spurs - hope we hijack the JP deal and they have an even worse league campaign than last season.

We were in previous windows, just looked and saw Guardian (Jacob Steinberg) was one who covered it
