Summer Silly Season Transfer Thread 2025

My professional life has brought me into contact with someone who has told me on good authority that we are trying to land Southampton's Mateus Fernandes

No idea if any validity but much like Berge, one of the only good players in a poor team at Southampton - Player of the season there wasn't he? Good young CM. Athletico Madrid linked recently, but won't come cheap apparently, saw some silly figures thrown about for him.

Ex-sporting and Esporil interestingly - so some links there with our Manager and Assistant Manager.

If anything, another fun silly season link to thrown in with KDH and Luiz

He's a good player. I'd be keen.

Supposedly West Ham enquired and Southampton are quoting £40m to £50m!! Do really like the look of him but no way we are on that market if anywhere near that.

Of ours they are finding it easier to get their targets in because:

a) they are targeting players who aren't as high profile as our targets
b) their team was really poor prior to this window so anyone they sign can be offered pretty much a guaranteed starting place which isn't the case with us. Would any one of the players we were linked with be a guaranteed starter for us? I think not. Will most of Sunderland's signings start for them? I think so, yes.

Yes and ESR has great affection for Arsenal I'm sure but if it came down to a penalty kick playing for us that would cost them the league he tries to bury it. These are professional athletes not your best mate.

Signing poo players for overinflated fees is easier than getting good players without a PSR infraction, who could have guessed it?

Another one who assumes that they've signed poo players.
Well the names we're being linked with aren't exactly world class.
Sterling and Nelson for starters.

...or we could simply have a little patience and see who we sign before trying to compare apples with bananas... better still see how the table finishing and then we will know who made the better choices...
Liverpool have signed some real quality, but you are not comparing their purchases with Sunderland's?

Sounds increasingly like Spurs in talks to sign Palhinha on loan. Can't stand Spurs and would hate to see him go there.

I love Dibling but I wouldn't be touching him for those prices to be honest. He really struggled as the season went on, mentally just wasn't at it. Maybe his head was turned at that stage but the flair was gone by the close.

Completely agree. They weren't even playing him half the time. 2 goals and one assist. Looks like he has potential but they want north of £27m? This market is mental.

Once again Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka is one of the most inconsistent players in the world, imo. One game he can look world class, and in another he can look like a Championship midfielder. He's also rash at times and because of that he got quite a few red cards in his career. He's reaching the end of his career too. I'm not that impressed by that signing.

So they've signed one high profile player, but he's in his twilight years.

I've no doubt he was a great player man but I'm just sceptical. Maybe I'm wrong but I think, whilst he improves elements of our squad, I don't think he gets into our starting 11, which is what we're aiming for in terms of players currently, so he'd be an expensive one.

Not having a pop brother, just curious is all. Maybe I'm missing on the hype of him to be fair.
