I don't get the hype with Muniz. I was gutted about rumours of Mitro leaving but Muniz I'm ok with so long as replacements are brought in.

Just my opinion but I see Raul as first choice and Muniz as second choice (with potential to be good or not good enough) so to have Taremi come in to compete with Raul for first/second spot and hopefully get in another prospect who is younger than mid 20's who can learn from Raul and Taremi

Quote from: Nero on August 14, 2025, 09:42:56 AMMuniz is 24 what age does potential stop and just not quite getting there start, he not benching a 34 year old? What is to good to turn down for someone that might not be what we hoped?

Alexander Isak had a terrible season and confidence issues at 23 scoring only 6 goals in the league despite being a consistent starter before moving to Newcastle. I can guarantee that Jimenez would have benched him if he was at Real Sociedad that season.

You need look no further than Mitrovic who was getting no game time at all at Newcastle when he was 23.

Quote from: hopper on August 14, 2025, 10:11:10 AMI also think purely looking at people based on their age is overly reductive.

It's become pretty typical to refer to Raul by his age, Salah for example is 33 and making the same argument about how can someone of X age not replace him at 33 seems fairly absurd; why has it become so accepted to do it here with Raul.

Analyse the player, not just the age when it comes to performance. I understand it with recruitment because of resale etc; but on the pitch it doesn't make sense.

Probably because Liverpool have a pipeline of players and investment in a longer term strategy of sucession. Fulham on the other hand don't, with that in mind the age statement becomes more of a topic!

In my opinion your point isn't relevant to how can Muniz not start ahead of Raul when X and X age respectively.

Regarding signing and succession planning I agree with you. The point is about analysing performance.

My guess is Leeds or Brentford but we do pull a rabbit out of the hat sometimes.

I didn't ignore your post. Just because I didn't acknowledge everything you said, doesn't mean I didn't take it on board. The rest of your post was good, perhaps sometimes what's not said is just as important. If I took issue or felt your whole post needed addressing then I would. But It wasn't necessary, so I focused on the bit that did conflate the two. It's nothing personal, please don't take it as such.
[/quote]

That's completely fine, but you wrote a full reply about people conflating or comparing the two, more specifically, suggesting it in relation to people comparing kevin positionally as some sort of muniz replacement. The whole rest of my post made clear that's not what I said or think, which is why I just found it a bit of a confusing reply.

was just clarifying that wasn't what I was saying, the one line age comparison was purely about squad age and that alone. + I don't think anyone else here had suggested Kevin being a Muniz repalcement.. which is why I responded confused and asking for clarity 😅

Anyway on we go all good.

Re: hype with Muniz. Last season he scored against all the top 5; has one of the best goals per minutes and over performance of xG. In all relevant metrics he's performing very well.

In my opinion many of his goals show class and brilliant goalscoring ability. Both the goals v Liverpool; Chelsea, Wolves, and his goals in the cup too.

Season before he absolutely bullied some teams. That performance in the 3-0 v Spurs was immense.

What are people not seeing?

Consistency. That's the only thing holding Muniz back from being a £40m striker to a £100m striker. One week hes bossing Liverpool and VVD, another week he's struggling in cup games and behind Jimenez in the side.

That's how I see it anyway. I'm a believer though.

Plus, I don't think we play to his strengths, Marco wants a Mitro type performance but Muniz would blossom playing on the shoulder with cute little through balls. Not our style though.

Tbh he was pretty good in the cups. I think he's missing an ability to be a reliable hold up outlet in general. He does miss a few sitters occasionally, but I think many strikers do from time to time.

He seems better at the hard stuff than easy stuff sometimes.

Marco loves experience and Raul has that far more so than Muniz. So I can see why he's more trusted.

I Ronic

Rodrigo and Raul alternating last season netted us 20 goals. Olly Watkins got 18 for Villa. I'd honestly much prefer having the option of two players getting regular minutes rather than keeping my fingers crossed Olly stays fit.
If we are to become a sustainable football club who don't constantly  lose out to other clubs. Our transfer targets should be for oven ready players going straight into the under 21's with a view to them stepping up to the 1st team, within 18-24 months. If successful, it brings the squad age down, transfer and other fees down and avoids the risk of a big monies transfer not working out.

Yeh, as I said, I'm a believer, I can't remember which match it was, and the whole team didn't show up but I recall against lower league opposition Muniz had a bit of a stinker and struggled for a little while. But as I said, even as a big fan, I can acknowledge, currently, his question mark is consistency. And I think that's partly why some are ok if he goes, but its about opinions I guess.

Personally, I see growth in him and he'll get there with the right team and coaches behind which I believe he has at Fulham.

Could it have been the Preston game? I understand the point on consistency, I think though strikers blow hot and cold.

I don't think he's a complete player or anything. He feels like a bit of a joker in the sense you never know what's going to happen. He's capable of some incomprehensible misses (v Arsenal away), but he'll occasionally do something jaw dropping like Sheffield United, or a raking 40 yard ball that lands at winger's feet.

That's what might make managing him hard, he's slightly unpredictable.

The Cravenette

Muniz has scored some brilliant goals for us and always puts in a shift. He has improved so much and still has massive potential.

I have no idea why anyone would think with 2 days left until our first match of the season, £50 mil in the bank is better than a striker with Prem experience who scores goals.

Not sure I agree with this - some of his best moments / performances for us (e.g. goal vs. Liverpool last year where he made VVD look village; performances in the 3-0s vs. Spurs last year and Brighton the year before) he absolutely monstered and bullied the opponent's CBs, holding up the ball, bringing others into play, winning arial duels etc.

He has it in his locker to be the commanding 6ft ST, as others have said, he just hasn't ironed out the games where it looks like all he does is jog around the pitch for 90 mins and miscontrol the odd ball that comes his way (although these are more and more infrequent)
