During the close season with little football to watch I have been listening to much more music discovering new tracks and re visiting old favourites.
Pinching the idea from another forum and to run in conjunction with the Friday Evening music thread what is the best song/instrumental from any genre or decade that you have heard today?
My offering to kick the thread off is
Thanks in advance to WhiteJC for converting any links into actual clips
This morning: Princess Royal
The only tune I've been paid for playing - when busking in Prague.
Well if theme tunes count. I have been revisiting this practically every day.
The Theme Tune to Are You Being Served.
It just makes you feel like you are in a department store in the 70s, and actually pre-dates Money by Pink Floyd for use of cash registers.
Haha, for reasons that I can't really explain, I was listening to this absolute belter earlier.
Steve Winwood - while you see a chance
Carly Simon. You're so vain.
Stick a pony in yer pocket
Wouldn't it be good by Nik Kershaw great version.
6 by 6 Earl Van Dyke (keyboard lead for the Funk brothers)
Watching the Amazon advert, today and over the last week, in which a security guard becomes a chef, made me check out the backing music, it's Memphis Soul Stew by King Curtis. Worth a listen if you like your soul music.
Two instrumentals from me. After hours by Ronny Jordan and Walk on by by Peter White and Boney James !
Put this on your headphones and close your eyes...awesome.
Two, quite different, favourites. Chan Chan (Buena Vista Social Club) and Allegri's Miserere (Harry Christopher's The Sixteen)

I am glad you added this.I was watching TV and the ad came on and explained what it was to my youngest boy... He said he was suprised I liked it... I was about to give him what for when I turned to see him laughing.... what great track this is, I got it not long after it was released, it was along time ago anyway.
2CELLOS - Shape Of My Heart

In similar vein, I offer the wonderful:
No politics, religion or music....but in the week of a new release by my favourite band of all time I had to flout my credence
I have been banned from playing anymore of my obsession on Friday Evening Music. Well no that isn't true. But as this is my favourite band and I have just been playing this again and again. I stick it here. The brilliant Band Maid with a heavy song filmed in spooky Japanese style. The lead singers idea at the time.
Beth Hart - A Change is Gonna Come
Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove
Peter White - caravan of dreams
Dance to; be entranced by; just be amazed at the variations you hear in Maurice Ravel's fifteen minutes or so of absolutely musical magic 'Bolero', here performed by a group of musicians that starts from just one drummer in a Sao Paulo street and progresses from there ...

With very little good news coming from the club and only wild, worrying rumours. This seems an ideal time to remind us not to give up.

Band Maid often do what they call White Room instrumentals of their normal songs. They have them as extras on DVDs or added to CDs as DVD extras. Someone has put them together on Youtube. Promise I wont bore people with them all. But this I love as I love the original song.
Bob James - Angela
(the theme from taxi)
This version, and little film and interview,, of the traditional Lord Franklin, shows how Sinead O'Connor would really inhabit a song and it's emotions, conveying this listeners . It's from her album of traditional songs, which is very good.
Bob Dylan used the tune and some of the lyrics of Lord Franklin, for his own early song Bob Dylan's Dream. Here's a link of a rare live performance of this, for anyone interested.

Some excellent music choices. For something a little different yet still excellent a slice of beauty from Agnes Obel;
Bob Dylan and the Band, with Robbie Robertson, Manchester 1966: part of the world tour when they were all regularly booed, because previously acoustic folkie, Dylan, played with an electric band.

Don Henley & Bruce Hornsby - the end of the innocence
Richard Thompson is a brilliant British guitarist and songwriter, a founder member of Fairport Convention in the 60's, when he provided empathetic backing to some of fellow Fairport member Sandy Denny's greatest songs, such as Who Knows Where the Time Goes; and he is still performing and making great records, yet most people have never heard of him.
This song is supposedly about folk singer Anne Briggs, very big on the English 60's folk scene, who dropped out at the height of her popularity and disappeared, before reappearing many years later for a couple of performance - though it has also been said to be about Sandy Denny -maybe a mixture of the two.
Anne Briggs, here with highly influential folk guitarist Burt Jansch, formerly a member of Pentangle -

Bryan Adams - Summer of '69 (Live) . This is one of my wife's favourites. I didn't go to many gigs in my youth, and no festivals, but when I see and listen to this in my sixties, I can understand the attraction. Cheers me up on a bad day, and I find myself belting it out if I am alone at home (or miming it and listening on headphones if the family is in).

Ian Dury & the Blockheads - reasons to be cheerful, Pt.3
The incomparable Dave Hum:
If you know the tune, just listen to the variations!
American Jackson C. Frank suffered terrible burns, and was scarred mentally and physically, in an orphanage fire, when he was grew up, then came to England with the compensation money, and became big on the folk scene, and made a record, produced by Paul Simon.
He became an alcoholic and disappeared, and was discovered years later, back in America, homeless and on the streets - Paul Simon helping him out when he found out, getting him record royalties owned, but he died soon after.
But the songs from his one album were, and continue to be, much covered by other artists.
Bert Jansch and Al Stewart
Sandy Denny
Edwin Collins - a girl like you
New World Order -- Ministry
Hall & Oats - she got me bad
Homeland - NiNi Music/ Jayant Bhadula

Walker Brothers.
Tears for Fears - elemental
Gilbert O'Sullivan - alone again (Naturally)

Zach Bryan - Oklahoma smokeshow
Duelling Banjos - Dave Hum
Del Amitri - nothing ever happens
I'm adopted myself, just knew I was born in Brixton from a Geordie mother, with an Irish sounding name, and who I never knew - that was from my wife's researches.
But my wife recently did further research, and actually found a photo of my mother- and there is a strong likeness, who was from the north -east, and went to live in Brixton, where she gave birth to me.
Anyway, I saw the great Mary Gauthier recently at a small club.
She was brilliant, and a far better experience to seeing Bob Dylan at Cardiff Arena not many weeks before that - Dylan was very good, but these big venues are very alienating, miles from the stage, with all the security, etc.
Anyway, Mary was also adopted, and this song refers to this. Maybe some adopted people out there might be interested in all this.
Sorry, couldn't resist putting another song up about adoption - Joni Mitchell's, Green, about her daughter from her first marriage whom she put up for adoption - though she was reunited with her later in life.
PostmodernJukebox

This is another wonderful cello cover of a Band Maid song. The original song is beautiful and moving. This cover is equally memorable. Relax and enjoy.
The beautiful voice with almost a throwback to the Radio sound of the Sixties and Seventies.
Emmylou Harris, great Townes van Zandt cover - her intro reminds me of a Billy Connolly story, about a typical Glasgow party, where everyone is drunk and singing of longing for home - but they've never been anywhere!
But the idea of escape from home, and of longing to return, is a big theme in country and the Blues, and folk - well, most can relate to this longing in some way, especially if your situation isn't great.

Taylor Momsen, the little girl who was in 'The Grinch who stole Christmas' always says she is much happier being a singer than when she was as an actress. The Pretty Reckless always a favourite.
I never knew she was in the Grinch film
Taylor has a great voice
The Pretty Reckless are a great band
Will post more of their songs at some future point
Khruangbin - So We Won't Forget
Seems apt for today. The brilliant (my second favourite Japanese Band) Trident.
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
WARNING - CONTAINS ANIMATED VIOLENCE AND SCENES DRAWN FROM REAL LIFE EVENTS.
JUST RELEASED.
Lyle Mays/Pat Metheny - September fifteenth
Dire Straits - Tunnel Of Love
God's Away on Business - Tom Waits
Well it is getting near to halloween. A great album and a great track.
In English I think it's Nightingale. Based on Romeo and Juliet.
Miley Cyrus - used to be young
Chris De Burgh - don't pay the ferryman
I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival
the Beach Boys - I can hear music
Soul Dracula by Hot Blood
Black Snake Boogie - FUZZRIDER
As the band are re issuing and remastering their back catalogue. This is also worth a play. A wonderful song but is it improved by the orchestral remaster. You decide. But the lyrics still hit home.
Paint It Black - Valerie Broussard
This one is an acquired taste, but as an instrumental it's brilliant.
Gary Scargill & Peter Oldroyd - "Hypertronic"
Hoodie & the Blowfish - only wanna be with you
Well it was yesterday - hope it counts - it was the bunch of young lads and lasses singing a song about Fernandez looking like a rat . And he really does .
Del Amitri - be my downfall
Heaven Knows - The Pretty Reckless
Marmalade - Reflections Of My Life
the Jam - that's entertainment
Diga Diga Doo - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
I've listen'd to this a few times now and its really grown on me
The Beatles - now and then
Not a fan usually of mixing and messing about with originals. But this is just brilliant. Imagine Earth Kiss and Fire.
I Had Too Much to Dream......by the Electric Prunes
Yesterday played a few Billy Fury hits. Tragic life, died so young and oft forgotten talent, at least by me.
Run for cover. Marcus Miller , George Duke and David Sanborn !

On Sunday I shall hopefully be watching live from Yokohama Arena via the computer. Having purchased my steaming ticket. Band Maid. In front of 17,000 fans to conclude their 10 year anniversary.
This taken from 5 years ago when the lead singer had just had her shoes stollen by the crowd and she has time to compare height with the barefoot assassin MISA the bass player. My favourite band of all time.
Daryl Hall and Darius Rucker - wagon wheel
Electric Light Orchestra - 10538 Overture
Peter Starstedt - where do you go (my lovely)?
Lead singer Josh Kiszka sounds like a young Robert Plant
Highway Tune - Greta Van Fleet
Well, just commenting on above. Greta Van Fleet big time channeling Led Zeppelin. And to very good affect. I'm big Zeppelin fan, and really enjoy GVF. Excellent band, they do have their own unique sound, but, Zeppelin huge influence. Just came out with their fourth album. Would encourage any Led Zeppelin fan to sample some GVF.
Lead singer voice a carbon copy of Plant....
Darius Rucker - only wanna be with you
The last 6 notes of "Something" (in the way you look) Beatles --- Thank you George.
Rock Me Baby - Stones & AC/DC
Playing for Change - waiting on the world to change
The Christmas Song. Nat King Cole .
Today i heard an absolute classic by Hazel O'Connor " Will You ".
Especially the Saxaphone Solo in the middle.
The Beatles - hello, goodbye
Just heard this on the strangest film ever - Titane (French)
Had forgot this song
Joe Walsh - life's been good
Sunday at 8AM our time I watched the streaming from Yokohama Band Maid concert. I appreciate that not everybody likes music they can't understand all the lyrics or even ROCK MUSIC. But these ladies are the best thing to happen to music for the last ten years. Anyway in Japan there don't allow filming by the crowd except by permission. This was one fan com from their song that was filming free. Hope it captures some of the spirit of the 3 hour concert.
Since someone mentioned the Zombies above, just wanted to post that I really like them. Several fave Zombies diddies for me are "Time of the Season" and "Tell Her No".

This brings back fond memories of sessions at the long-lost, much missed Ram Cider House, Godalming, where Manchester Phil used to sing this with a *** hanging out of the corner of his mouth. I think Shane was a hero of his.
It's about Salford.
Shane MacGowan was as much an artist of London as he was of Ireland. For obvious reasons this excoriating love/hate number is not often heard on the public airwaves.
Another Saturday Night - Sam Cooke

How about some Taiwan Metal Core? Not usually a fan of Harsh Vocals but if you read the lyrics and stick with it. You hopefully will enjoy it. All we need is FOF radio as the selections on these pages are so varied and entertaining as to make radio listening dull.
Two concerts, same era, both in potentially hostile circumstances, and both where the artists played for free.
The album, Johnny Cash at San Quentin, was a big hit in the late 60's - takes me back to teacher training college in Yorkshire - not because it was like a prison! - but when i was I lived hall of residence when i first went there, a bloke at the end of the corridor, Alex, also from London - decent bloke, kept playing it at full volume - Johnny Cash was his hero, and he dressed in black just like him -
The Stones at Altamont Free Concert, 1969, supposedly symbolises the end of the 60's Peace and Love era -

Do you go to 'The Shepherds' at Cotgrave? My best mate (sadly passed away in 2022) and his wife took me there a couple of times when i visited them in Radcliffe on Trent many years ago.
Many thanks for all the hard work you put in on your daily submission and also help in the past. You're a star must get FoF player of the season again!
no problem Ian, my pleasure
I've been to the Shepherds several times, its about a mile and a half from my house, we're very lucky in that there are several really good pubs/restaurants in the area and Nottingham town centre is excellent for "traditional" pubs and really good small "non-franchised" restaurants and bistros.

In similar vein: **** up your Beaver.
I'm intrigued by the variations.
My favourite guitarist is used in a clever spoof by a fan who knows how to do these things. Old but fun for me.
Dusk Till Dawn - Fuzzrider
A rare Band Maid song written with English lyrics by Miku Kobato of Band Maid. But the music comes from their bestie friend Mike of Incubus who apparently are still going.
Crowded House - teenage summer
Goyte & Kimbra - somebody that I used to know
Heroes - King Crimson
Posted on the Friday Night music thread too.
Richard and Linda Thompson - recent Guardian interview about Linda's album of new songs, sung by other artists, because her she has voice problems.
She also speaks of knowing all the very talented British folk musicians of the 60's/early 70', like Nick Drake, Sandy Denny, John Martyn, and also worked with Gerry Rafferty of the Humblebums with Billy Connolly, and big hits with Stealers Wheel, like Stuck in the Middle With You and Baker Steet - a few years later all these people were dead - not Billy of course, of drink/drugs, and suicide in Nick Drake's case.
The folk singers were the wildest and most self destructive, made most rock stars look like lightweights!

For Doug Ingle who recently passed away.
IRON BUTTERFLY IN-A GADDA DA-VIDA~IN HD BEST FULL VERSION
The song is considered significant in rock history because, together with music by Blue Cheer, Jimi Hendrix and Steppenwolf, it marks the time period when psychedelic music began to form heavy metal. In 2009, it was named the 24th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.
A commonly related story says that the song's title was originally "In the Garden of Eden", but at one point in the course of rehearsing and recording, singer Doug Ingle got drunk and slurred the words, creating the mondegreen that stuck as the title. However, the liner notes on 'the best of' CD compilation state that drummer Ron Bushy was listening to the track through headphones, and could not clearly distinguish what Ingle said when he asked him for the song's title. An alternate explanation given in the liner notes of the 1995 re-release of the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album, is that Ingle was drunk, high, or both, when he first told Bushy the title, and Bushy wrote it down. Bushy then showed Ingle what he had written, and the slurred title stuck.

Band Maid have been going for nearly 11 years. But it wasn't until 8 years ago and many many attempts that they were allowed by the record and management company to actually play a song with both Lyrica and music they had composed. Since then they now write all their music.
Space Oddity - David Bowie
Elton John - someone saved my life tonight

Meanwhile in Japan, Saki (not the lead sing with Band Maid) but a metal/rock guitarist who has played with Mary's Blood and Nemophila has recently left them and become a single artiste although I would imagine people will soon be knocking down her door to play with them. Question/comments about Band Maid
I've really liked some of the posted videos/songs in this thread. I also notice them pop up here quite frequently by forum members. So, I went to my Apple Play and the bands' Essentials and listened to a handful of songs to get more familiar with this group. I have to be honest, most of their songs sounded the same. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the high energy rock they play, but songs did sound very similar.
Am I missing something? Or maybe I just can't differentiate?

They are so varied from Punk to rock to metal to ballads to anime and film music. But as they are my favourite band ever. I don't think we need to get into any debate about it. Let's keep the thread to music and if you don't appreciate some tastes move on to another. But no dissing of bands especially bands we love. But I would suggest you look closer.

My apologies, I just like one thread that we just enjoy the content. I can bore for Japan about Band Maid and other Asian bands. But it would be dull to people who love different music. 'About Us', Memorable, HATE?, Domination, Bestie, Sayonakidori, Rock in Me, After Life, No God,Endless Story, Freedom,Giovanni. All show different sides to the Band. Hal Ca the lead guitarist and the bass player have been playing together for years since they were literally kids. Now in their twenties. I think the drummer has changed since the early days. Why we in this country can't have an education system that encourages kids to play instruments as opposed to just the recorder or triangle is beyond me.

Moody Blues - Tuesday afternoon
Breadfan - Metallica ( Budgie cover)
Todd Rundgren & Rivers Cuomo - down with the ship

A bat lands on Taylor so some swearing is present in case kiddies are here. No Bat was hurt in the performanc. But I guess Taylor had to have painful anti malaria injections after.

long song for a Sunday...
Band Geeks - roundabout
Dazed And Confused - Led Zep
PostmodernJukebox - the chain
Two videos but three great bands. First Trident, a three piece from Japan. Followed by the MV of a collaboration of the excellent three sister band from Mexico The Warning and the five piece from Japan Band Maid. They become friends on social media. Then met in a US festival and got on despite not being able to speak each others language.
The Band that released Hurt before a certain Mr J Cash made it his own. Had some great songs and albums.
Loudon Wainwright - particularly like the second song here, Men, at 3.10, reminds of my dad - things he said when drunk, as someone traumatized by his war experiences. I think the song contains truth, though definitely not anti-women. My opinion anyway, others may not agree.
Here Loudon doesn't have much of his usual trademark bitter/sweet humour - maybe that's how they like it in NI. Seen him in Glasgow, with his family- son Rufus and daughter Martha, both successful singer/songwriters, and also at Regents park Open Air theatre in the 70's, and he was married to Kate, or was it Anna! McGarrigle.

How many great artists can you get on a stage in one concert? Well this must be close!
I must be honest, I've not seen this before and it did bring a tear to my eye, just love it!
Do you know the concert venue and year, at all?
Here's my one for today...
Dudley Moore Trio - the more I see you
Glad you enjoyed the Gregg Allman version of 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' Bestof Brede.Agree with you it is quite moving.
From what I know it was a celebratory show of his from Atlanta, 2014. Gregg, who had returned to the road after a liver transplant, was paid tribute by dozens of his closest friends.

For tonight...
Sadly this band have announced they will be on hiatus after 2024. They have been going for years and sometime Japanese bands use the term 'Hiatus' to mean they are off doing separate things, getting married, getting divorced or simply have had enough. Or just need a rest and will be back.
Using traditional Japanese instruments as well as modern. They have a unique sound that hopefully people will enjoy.
Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne
The B side to Tragedy. A friend at school loved Argent. I can't believe this is over 50 years old? Still have the single.
Michael McDonald - I keep forgettin'
See Me, Feel Me - The Who
Metallica - Turn The Page
Youtube guitar legend Dave Simpson and his band Red Giant have released the first single of the new Album
The song was written according to the legends of the Dolgan people. The song is in the Dolgan language (a dialect of Yakut, which is common in Taimyr). The text tells about the Ice Age, mammoths and ancient people who inhabited northern Siberia. The lyrical composition is performed on ethnic musical instruments of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. In the track you can hear the sounds of cracking ice, the tread of a mammoth and the life of cave dwellers. The music immerses you in a different, pre-civilization era, in the wild, cold, prehistoric tundra. The meaning of the song includes the hypothesis of the initial settlement of America by indigenous peoples from Siberia through the Bering Strait. The main feature of the composition is the male choir of throat singing.
I think sometimes we ned a little perspective. Instant opinion and over reaction has brought us to this point. Sit back and think a little.

Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Dead - Those Damn Crows
James Taylor - wasn't that a mighty storm

Very similar to me, all my John Mayall vinyl's sitting in cupboard, I have managed to replace a lot of them on cd's, but I can't get rid of them, obviously the sound quality is better, but you can't beat a good album cover.

Two bands with less than 300 subs in YT. Yet more talent than many superstars in the West.
Favorite song of 2024. Australian indie rock band from Brisbane. Really chill track.

X Japan were huge back in the 80s. Power Rock and Punk and very much the superstars of Japan. They recently did a Tour about a year back and Band Maid were the support in one Gig.
They insisted that The Maids came on stage with them and sung. While they did their gig The Maids could be seen in the audience rocking out like the rest of the fans. Anyway this is a power ballad and if nothing else their hair and style shows how 80s they really were.

Agreed Spikey
I've seen Rival Sons twice now, once supporting Deep Purple and then again last October at the O2 in Brum. My partner's now into them, having come with me to Brum and recently said she'd like to go and see them again. I'd like them to play more of their back catalogue though. Shooting Stars is a brilliant track, as you say. Pressure And Time was the track / album that got me started on RS.
I would also recommend The Commoners, who i saw supporting Samantha Fish. They're Canadian and likened to the Black Crowes.
Regarding Those Damn Crows, i have the 'Murder and the Motive' album.
Sadly this was a song in tribute to a friend of Shal who is the singer here. This was their last meeting before she died of Cancer. The friend is portrayed by another singer and friend of Shal.
What is even harder to fathom. Is that Shal too would be taken with Cancer four months after this was shot.

Now thinking that at 83 could be the last time to see him! But definitely won't be paying that much.

Keith Richards is nice bloke shock.
Just reading about a new play about the Redlands drug bust in 1969, of Richards, Jagger and Marianne Faithful, at Richards home, near Chichester. The two men were sent to prison, while Marianne had her reputation trashed. But they were soon released after the editor of the Times, William Rees Mogg wrote an editorial saying this was 'breaking a butterfly on a wheel' - .
Anyway, Keith still lives in that village near Chichester, where he is spoken of very fondly by locals, often putting cash into community projects, including a new roof for the church, and was a popular local in the village pub- presumably no longer goes there now he's given up drinking!

Got a ticket at face value to see Dylan at the Albert Hall next week, through Ticketmaster. Wasn't going to bother, didn't want to see him at some huge soulless hall, a speck in the distance, and the Albert hall sold out within minutes;
but then saw a great review of Dylan in Liverpool, and suddenly really wanted to go to see him for , for what could well be the last time, since he's 83, and went onto Ticketmaster and there were a few resale tickets for each of the 3 nights at the Albert Hall,, and got a really good seat.
This first track shows the hostility Dylan faced for 'going electric', when Dylan and Robbie Robertson and the Band proudly played in front of the Stars and Stripes, which really wound up the French, who stormed the stage, stopping the concert.
Thanks in advance White JC.

I too have a ticket for Dylan, at the Albert Hall on Wednesday. I've seen him three times before, and it's hard to know what you're going to get - has been fantastic, has been terrible. But I like his last album, and he seems to be in pretty good condition, so am full of optimism.

Their paths crossed in the English 60's folk scene, and Paul Simon produced Jackson's only record - very influential and much admired, to this day.
However, while Paul went on to great things with Garfunkel. Jackson, who'd been traumatized by being seriously scarred in a childhood fire at his school, ended up, penniless, blinded in one eye after being shot with an airgun, on the streets in New York.
Paul Simon heard of this, and helped Jackson by getting him royalties owed him, though Jackson died shortly afterwards.

Can I take the liberty to ask who traces all the footage? I put the Mott the Hoople on and within minutes there it was! ::thumb::

Joan Baez and Bob Dylan
On freeview number 71 they showed a live performance of The Hollies and Carrie Anne. For the part where another instrument takes over they all fool about looking for it, with Allan Clarke looking down the front of his trousers. I wonder what musical instrument he expected to find there?
not the correct clip but as close as I could find ::tongue::

To answer the question accurately the best instrumental that I've heard today, whilst looking for something else, is this. It was new to me and rather nice, I think.
NEK! Started off doing covers to other bands music. They did a few Band Maid covers but now stand out as their own band. Although very much with that heavy bass sound that The Maids made their own.
Friday On My Mind - The Easybeats
When I Was Young - Eric Burdon & The Animals
Ride The Sky - Lucifer's Friend
The Dukes of September
(Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald, Bob Scaggs) - pretzel logic

John Lodge - whispering angels
Proud To Be ( A Honky Woman) - Vinegar Joe
Dancing group as always popular in Asia
Raise a Sullens drummer with her debut single
Vinegar Joe - lady of the rain
Not a new song but a new live video. Really to advertise the fact that there is a stream of this concert at the end of the month taken from last years Hall Tour. Doesn't cost much and you can buy extended streams for thirty days. That's the advertising done.

Love him or hate him, he always puts his total heart and soul into everything he does.
There are a few female bands in Japan who delve into what I think is called 'Harsh Vocals'. Or growling. Not a fan myself but when done well Hanabie are amongst the best.

Band Maid are asked to do many Anime themes songs. A big new anime in Japan about a rock band is called 'Rock is a Lady's Modesty'. 'Ready to Rock' will be released soon and a few spoiler bits have been released. But what is fun for the band is some of them were asked to appear and had to wear those stop motion suits. They have had an anime of themselves but never appeared in stop motion.
Oh and this was the anime MV that was made of a song they did.
Under the Influence
Hank Williams was very influential in modern music, obviously country artists such as Johnny Cash, Townes van Zandt, etc. but the young Bob Dylan was very influenced through hearing him on the radio.
Shane McGowan, with post Pogues band, the Popes sems obviously influenced by the above Hank song here! You can see him and the Popes doing this in concert on YouTube; and also him doing an actual Hank Williams song, The Angel of death, which i thought was maybe a bit morbid to pot- great version though, imo!
Playing for change - colors
I've been listening a lot to Diane Birch recently, as far as I know she's only made three albums,
| Bible Belt | 2009 |
| Speak A Little Louder | 2013 |
| Flying On Abraham | 2024 |
Diane Birch - what is love
I LUV ME are worth getting to know. The couple have some nice songs and this has a nice mix of hope and sadness. Plus they are always willing to engage with the audience on line.
An original song based on a US gothic legend. Mieux provides the vocals and it has very much the Hammer House of Horror feel to it.

49 years ago today we lost Paul Kossoff. Probably my favourite guitarist.
More Free..... love Kossoff's guitar
Free - Come Together In The Morning.

Hey Hey, My My - Battleme
I never know if people prefer official subtitles or are happy with listening to the music. So we have some power metal, some indie, some rock/pop with only two with CC which are not always accurate. Hope they are enjoyable to anybody new to the Japanese bands.

Alan Gorrie, Daryl Hall - pick up the pieces
Watch Over You - Alter Bridge
Jefferson Airplane - white rabbit
Some amazing guitar playing especially last three minutes

I have mentioned Citizen Soldier before. An artist whose music deals mainly with depression and everything around it. Sounds heavy but like all music has a way of making you understand while enjoying the struggle.

After battling for two years. Band Maid were about to be dropped by their management and record companies. They didn't know at the time. But this song was picked up by various on line radio stations. The members of the band thought that their social media had been hacked as all the comments and views came in.This song is about to hit another milestone.

Johnny Rivers - Positively 4th Street
Wishbone Ash - blowin' free

Steely Dan - every thing you did
Elkie Brooks - great Bob Dylan cover, which enabled me to fully comprehend the words of this song from his born again Christian period, which was left off of the album Shot of Love.
Dylan was booed and had audiences doing mass walkouts when he played US concerts with only material from his new 'born again' albums. But when I saw the tour in the UK, Earls Court 1982/3, after pressure from the record company which threated to withdraw finance for the tour, he mixed the religious songs with old material, but was still booed by some when he played the new songs, and he responded by saying 'we all live in the past sometimes, here's one from way back in my own past,' and he played the traditional British folk song Barbara Ellen.
Sorry, but couldn't help uploading Dylan's own live version of the song! which seems relevant to today, with it imagery of a disordered world. Supposedly mixes a relationship with one of his black backing singers, one of whom he made pregnant and secretly married, with Armageddon type imagery. I generally liked the religious material, and it was certainly passionately performed, though I'm not at all religious myself.
With Michael Bloomfield on guitar.

Far better than most of the rubbish on here , but each to their own .
PLEASE - No comment or criticism is needed on this thread. We have enough of that on the rest of the threads in FOF. Post music that you like. If you don't like it then move on. There is no 'rubbish on here'. If you don't like it then fine. It is just music you don't like. Just let the music make its own comment.
I have an app on my laptop called 'Radio Garden'. With a VPN, you can go round the globe. Finding radio stations even in the most remote places. My Sunday guilty pleasure is Bobby Rishard's Cajun music show on WGUO Gumbo 94.9 out of Houma, Louisiana.

QWER are a Korean IDOL BAND. They play pop and I have always happily dismissed them. But I rather like this rather moving little song.

John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett- have seen John live and spoken with him, very nice, humble bloke. Geneva is one of my favourite songs, and he's written several great songs, but I mentioned this a bloke at the bar during the interval, and he said 'Heabutts mate,' where he headbutts the mike, 'that's the song.' Well, he has to play up to his tragi-comic clown persona.

I was asked by a music fan on FOF to post my favourite Asian band or track. To convert them because they are not really a fan. As the Asian music industry is one of the biggest in the World. It isn't easy as there are so much variations and genres. BUT my favourite band is Band Maid who again have so many types of song and musical genres just in their 12 years as a band.
Still from 5 years years ago. This mixed pop and rock song is worth a listen. But all music is down to taste. If you don't like Asian bands then it is fine. I hope many do.
the Doobie Brothers - minute by minute
Heaven's Hung In Black - W.A.S.P

Last night I saw the play Marie and Rosetta with the wonderful Beverly Knight and Ntombizodwa Ndlovu. See it if you get the chance. 》》》》
"Mississippi, 1946. Sister Rosetta has changed the face of gospel music with her exuberant, electric guitar-playing style. Shunned by straitlaced church folk for performing in nightclubs and glorying in rhythm and blues, she's persuaded the saintly young singer Marie to join her on a tour of the segregated southern States. But first she has to convert Marie's pure Sunday sound into something that has just a little more swing...

Figured this wasn't worth starting a new thread. Advice request from an American about tickets across the pond!
My wife is going to be in Dublin for a week for work. I'm flying over with her for a few days beforehand, and it happens to coincide with Oasis being there two nights in a row. Both nights are sold out. Is the resale market pretty active? Here in the US we can probably get tickets in the days leading up to a show, but I'm not seeing resale options even being offered on Ticketmaster right now.
Totally unintentional coincidence...but now we REALLY want to try to get into the show. Advice??

There is something special about the community surrounding Japanese bands. An English reactor on You Tube who has for many years been highlighting Asian bands had some bad news a year back. He has Cancer. Not likely to be something he survives. His voice is going but he continues to do what he loves. The latest band who heard about it sent him a message he shared. Band Maid in over 12 years have never been in a recording studio at the same time. They write music remotely, send the stuff to each other. Make changes and then it is recorded by the music writer/lead guitarist of the band. For lives they rehearse together and the rhythm guitarist will then learn how to play her part as the original recording was played by the lead guitarist. Which is why live performances often have additions to the original.

With the recent passing of Dave Ball, I've come across Soft Cell's superb extended version of "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go". The way "Tainted Love" slowly morphs into "Where Did Our Love Go" is brilliantly done. Well worth nine minutes of your time, at full volume.

The Sopranos is one of my favourite tv series, and I'm someone who was never into Mafioso stuff, apart from James Cagney films on tv when I was a kid, but The Sopranos is brilliant - the depth of the characterizations, as well as the great storylines, is its strength. Here we see a main character Christopher Moltisanto, along with one of my favourite songs, Dolphins by the the brilliant, underrated Fred Neil, who had a hit with Everyone's Talkin' at Me. For me this a perfect meeting of film and soundtrack
This seems to be the only live film of Fred Neil available.
