Quote from: ffc73 on July 07, 2024, 09:01:04 PMLoved Ryan when he was with us, wish him all the best but he is no Olise. Hope Palace fans know that & don't get on his back.
That's one of the reasons I thought Ryan might return, is that (most of) our fan base would boost his confidence, and that is sometimes a positive to a player who in a Palace side might be judged (wrongly) on his inability to live up to past players and then struggle.

Palace like us will be a potentially good move as expectations are similar. Injuries aside still very much unproven in premier league. Not sure for majority of premier teams he is a starter but certainly a decent squad addition.

Quote from: SuffolkWhite on July 08, 2024, 10:11:34 AMI have a tenuous rumour which probably mean nothing at all.
So I'm in a pub in Ipswich watching England on Saturday and get talking to an Ipswich fan, he tells me that he or someone he knows is a friend of Talbot our chief scout! Bear with me as I was three sheets to to wind times 4 🙄.

So the rumour, there is a player called Johnson thst we are interested in! Now, he may well of told me the first name but I'd had too much beer by then. That's it, not quite finger on the pulse but I'm still feeling the hangover  :slap:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-johnson/profil/spieler/468002

Ipswich just bought him from West Ham so don't think we'll be signing him haha

Emile Smith Rowe reminds me of a younger version of Harry Wilson, when he's good he's really good, but that seems to happen about 10 games a season. It's consistency levels that are needed by both players.

Think the competition might come from RB Leipzig for his signature who can offer European competition.

Personally think He's a better prospect than Wilson ever was, the issue has been injuries that disrupted his progress and then not being able to get consistent first-team action as he's been competing with Odegaard and Martinelli. A bit like how Tete was up there in the best ever fulham RB convo - but then his injury meant that Castagne has taken his place and been more or less undroppable, when Tete's come back in he hasn't really had a run of games to get back to his best form but we know he's a very capable player.

Speak with a lot of Gooners as a lot of my friends and family are fans and they all rave about his ability and all seem to think he deserves to start somewhere regularly and is more than good enough to be at a top club long term...most want to keep him or want a buyback clause,  but they also accept that he probably needs to go somewhere he's not competing with the players he is at the moment to establish himself.

ESR has shown a much higher ceiling than Wilson, and the main issue is his injuries not that he is inconsistent.

Always a gamble to make someone who has been injured as much as him a key player. Has hardly been available for more than 10 games other than 21/22.

Think this is defo a gamble with the injuries but one prob worth taking. If he hadn't had them he may well be a £60 million+ player by now and we wouldn't have a hope of signing him. He'd prob be off to frigging Bayern with Joao and Olise or somewhere similar.

If fit he's way better than Wilson. 21/22 he got 10 goals and 2 assists from 21 games of playing time in the prem. I'd take that for a striker let alone a 10/winger. I like Wilson but can't see him getting 10 in a full season let alone just over half.

As others have said Arsenal fans love him and don't want to see him go which says it all really. Pretty big gamble re injuries but sometimes a player goes to a new club with different fitness coaches etc and just does better in that regard. To be fair if we get half a season out of him with 10 goals that is still out performing anything we currently have in a full!! Highly unlikely we find anyone of his class in our price range or willing to come to us so prob the kind of gamble a club of our size has to take as could be an absolute steal at £25 million if we can keep him fit.

I dont think we should blow his injury record out of proportion. Last season he missed 7 league games where he couldnt make the match day squad due to injuries. Chuck another 3-4 games on top of that for him to not be fully match fit but still, thats not a lot and he featured in the squad 31 times. Hes also had surgery for his groin, which often is a good thing to have gotten out of the way.

As mentioned earlier, the competion for places at Arsenal is immense and often he was on the bench so the lack of game time is perfectly natural.

If he didnt have his injuries, then we wouldnt be anywhere close to ever get to sign a player like that so I think its a reasonable gamble considering his age and talent

ESR, McTominay and Chalobah would cost quite a lot but having these 3 to be added to the back bone of our squad would really  take us onto the next level and would secure us for quite a lot of years ahead.

Also on the injury front, clearly Arsenal do something daft in their training/recovery plans because they get way more injuries than we do. So potentially also worth factoring in a different/more optimal training plan that we get our players following and you're looking at less injuries potentially

Not saying that the injuries are disqualifying, but they are the biggest issue. Think at somewhere between £25 million would be a good price with the injuries in mind. If we can get him past that and performing like he has shown he can, he'd be valued at about three times that amount.

100% It's one of the biggest reasons we could afford him at all that he's had some time out, but he seems to be fit and ready to go now. I think 25m could look a steal for him in years to come potentially. Fingers crossed we can make it happen, think he'd be very popular here and he has that air of top-level class about him that we would be missing with Willians departure.

In my mind, if he reaches his full potential, he would be ahead of Anthony Gordon who is currently being quoted at around £100m. For me, ESR is worth the gamble.

Birmingham White

Having read Suffolk White's message I would not be surprised if the player quoted was Brennan Johnson at Spurs. He is a winger and hasn't set the world on fire at Spurs. I bet he is a back up idea in case we don't get ESR.

I was that drunk the rumour could be about Pinocchio  ::wine::  :slap:
Guy goes into the doctor's.
"Doc, I've got a cricket ball stuck up my backside
"How's that?"
"Don't you start"

Deuce

According to EPL Index/Teamtalk we have made a third and probably final bid for ESR.

Are "preparing" another bid...
So nothing new on yesterdays teamtalk article sadly, just rehashing it seemingly

Speaking of Arsenal and academy products, they just sold Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz for £4 million.

On the ESR injury front, I don't think looking at last season is a metric of 'his injuries are perhaps exaggerated'. The kids had a harsh run of injuries, some more serious than others, but last year found himself on the right side of it, but you could argue, and I think I would, that's definitely been helped by not that many competitive minutes. I'd be less alarmed if he played regularly last year and the injury wouldn't be a question mark.....but alas, it is.

I agree with Jay though, if he was playing regularly to the level previously attained, we'd not be in with a sniff for him. I'm definitely in the boat that he's the sort of gamble worth taking though.......

Well worth a shot indeed. I know TK once mentioned he was a bit more cautious around signing players with injury histories these days given it hadn't worked out with a couple of gambles we took earlier in his tenure, ( I assume Kongolo, Mawson? any others?) but this one is one you have to pull the trigger on for me in case it works out because the upside potential is so big.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens.

Meanwhile I see Bollo toure is being told if he doesn't find a move at Milan he'll be working with the reserves...
Fine, We'll take him off ya hands then for 1.5m Milan seeing as he's not part of ya plans! poor sod, think he's had an unfortunate run of it. Don't think he'd want to be second fiddle though, surely there's a club where he can get game time out there!

Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe Set for Fulham Move as Transfer Nears Completion
As reported by TeamTalk, the transfer saga involving Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe and Fulham is nearing its conclusion, with the Cottagers preparing to submit a third and likely final bid for the midfielder. This development marks a significant shift in the career of a player once touted as a future star at the Emirates.

Emile Smith Rowe's ascent at Arsenal was meteoric after breaking into the first team a few seasons ago, showcasing immense potential that hinted at a long-term role. However, a series of injuries has stunted his progress, coinciding with a period of rapid evolution at the club. Arsenal's midfield and attack have seen substantial reinforcements, with Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz becoming central figures, limiting Smith Rowe's opportunities to make an impact.

Agree re Ballo Toure, I know we didn't see too much of him, but the little we did see quite impressed me.
