Quote from: jayffc on July 11, 2024, 01:15:55 AMLet hope we can wrap this up soon. Andre, ESR,  Semih Kılıçsoy, Joto Silva, Chalobah. What an exciting and youthful set of signings those would be! If we managed to pull that off I'd be very keenly looking forward to the start of the new season.

Even with Pahlinha's money I can't see us being able to afford all of those fees/wages on your list given PSR/FFP. As much as I'd also like all of those sadly life isn't Football Manager.

Think it will be a case of Andre or ESR, not both given our need to bring in 2 x Prem ready CBs, plus a LB. Stansfield will plug Bobby's spot but another winger also needed for Willian. Squad needs a lot of surgery so money per post available to spend won't be as high as needed for all of that list.

Don't forget the Mitrovic money we still have plus the fact Palhinha l, Willian, Tosin and BDR'S wages

ESR has played across attacking midfield positions and was at his best on the left. He would be the Willian replacement.

That would be great, but my point stands that can't see us signing both him and Andre for the fees/wages quoted plus all those other names when we need 2 x Prem ready CBs and a LB - just to tread water.

Even signing Andre and ESR would be a stretch financially if we still want to plug the defensive gaps with quality players.

Realistically I could see us signing one of ESR/Andre, maybe a Chalobah, then have to get more creative with our remaining kitty sadly.

Would be delighted to be proved wrong but I fear the shift in FFP rules next year is really going to stiff us.

Think you're prob underestimating the FFP room this year mate. The championship year is gone where we made massive losses and our allowable losses for the 3 year period was a lot lower. The last two years we have done incredibly well not spending huge amounts and the Mitro sale. Add the Joao sale for this year. Also add the fact that Joao, Mitro and Willian were in our top 5 earners at the club as far as I am aware (Leno and Raul also on loads I believe).

In all likelihood Andre and Kılıçsoy wages would be significantly lower as young players coming from leagues that pay a lot less. Looks like Smith Rowe is only on £40k a week at Arsenal as well although to convince him to come we'd prob have to offer him a lot.

With Willian and BDR gone we need two...ESR as a starter and Kılıçsoy to bring through would be amazing.

With the championship year and 3 massive wages gone plus two massive sales we should comfortably have the money for these two and Andre plus at least one if not two top centre halves would have thought. I think left back we prob buy cheap or just loan again as just a back up. Here's praying on all anyway.

As we know very different players....Andre vs Joao:

Really interesting to see how we adapt. In theory we should be much better on the ball and when we are pressed high but defensively I suspect two will sit rather than just the one.

ESR 25m
Andre 25m
Semi 20m
Jota Silva 15m (17.5m release clause but in last year of his contract)
Chalobah 18m (they want 25m but wont get that)

103m spend - 47m for Palhinha = -55.5m in fees.
With all those transfer fees of course amortise over the lengths of the contracts. Weve also already shifted the wages of Tosin, BDR, Palhinha and potentially Willian too as things stand, 2 of which will have been some of our highest earners. I also would imagine if we brought players those in we'd consider moving on Jiminez too but who knows.

We were rumoured to be flush before the Palhinha money so that doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Personally would then spend 1.5m on Bollo Toure if it could be done and use a loan space on a CB or something like 10m range for Menghi. You could of course also find one of the above as a loan with an option to take the spending down for this window. Don't think that's out the question.

ESR is more a CAM/Attacking player mostly these day.  Andre is a deep-lying CM there to be combative, intercept and turn defense into attack quickly beating the press and distributing the ball forwards to players like ESR. they're very different players.

After fee's, wages with those heavy contracts might be the main talking point here though?

I still can't see us getting ESR and I have no idea how we are apparent frontrunners either!

Don't get me wrong, it would be brilliant I think but how have we found ourselves at the front of the queue?

Mullers OG

I may be a bit out of the loop but how much cash do we actually have to spend and remain within the limits?  The cash for Mitrovic's sale has presumably already been spent.  Iwobi 25, Bassey 22, Castagne 13, Jiminez 7, Benda 1 and a number of loan fees.  That leaves the cash from JP sale (less any sell on fee from his purchase, if any) and any remaining amount within the year's allowance.

Quote from: Hugh Janus on July 11, 2024, 08:43:18 AMI reckon ESR, Andre along with a few surprises on the way. Marco seems to like the more experienced players. I'm expecting a couple of Adama type signings.

It could work. Lukic and Reed had some excellent games together. 2 of the 3 of Lukic/Reed/Andre with Andreas(or his replacement if he's sold)/TC/new AM would work well imo. Not the same as it was with Joao obviously.

Alternative is to try and get Florentino Luis or Vini Souza or someone like that, as a more like for like replacement, but I guess one of TC/Lukic/Reed would have to be sold then(providing that both the new DM and Andre join).

As mentioned 1987:

We've recently shifted Palhinha, Tosin, BDR, and potentially Willians wages. 2 of which will have been our top earners currently - plus lost Mitros wages off the bill last year - another top earner.
Then if we brought in those I'd consider moving on Raul whos also seemingly on high wages here also - and we have Vinicius to sell so we could potentially recoup a couple million from too.

Seems perfectly doable to me.

Yeh It's still wishful thinking for now but we are heavily linked at this point. If we're the only ones willing to take a gamble on him at the requested price then who knows. We've made a few "coups" in our time, usually off the back of injury questions or a season not quite at top form. Stranger things have happened.

Could probably save some change by only signing the Turkish lad once.

You are allowed to make losses - and we made money from multiple decent finishes in the prem now. Its not only a matter of transfer money.

So even more realistic!
Will edit now, although we are in for seemingly 4 turkish players at least at the moment so sub out one for another ! :slap:

Maybe I am doing us a disservice but I would have thought a bigger club than us would be in the chase I suppose.

I totally hope that it comes off though.

The way that those fees work is that they're spread out over the contract and you only need to be able to balance the bit that is within the FFP period. So Bassey counts as £10 million as far as FFP is concerned. If we sign Andre for £25 million on a 5 year contract that is £5 million for FFP purposes.

Theoretically you can sell a player for £50 million to finance five £50 million signings, but the issue then is that you'll need to keep selling a £50 million player per season for five years, so it isn't a get out of jail free card.

Also seeing this from the Palhinha statement from TK:

"We've reached an agreement today that could result in the highest transfer negotiation in Club history, with these resources coming in at an essential time in our summer squad planning for the season ahead and our long-term future.

Would support the idea that the resolution of 100% getting that money in, may well be key to us identifying what level of targets we can aim for on the whole, so clearly good that it's come in the door earlier so we have plenty time to do something with it over the rest of the window and clear idea of what we have in the wallet to play with now.

Fingers crossed!

He had a great season, then was injured for a season and has hardly played after that. Probably seen as an injury risk.

Hugh Janus

Marco has said no FFP issues. He was clearly unhappy with how the transfer window went last summer. I couldn't see him signing a new contract without guarantees that funds will be available. My only concern is whether we get the players in early enough for him

Quickly looking at the accounts, and taking into account the exits so far, we likely have circa £80mil to spend, that is being conservative and obviously depends on how that is amortised.

Agree, good player who I imagine is looking higher than us. Also not sure about Andre rumours resurfacing as completely different type of player from Palhinha.
