Just being reported on Sky that we have had a £17m bid for MacTominay turned down..

Reasonably low starting bid, reported as wanting to "hold out for 30m" which just tells you how utterly ridiculous the market here can be.

Somewhere around 22-25m perhaps? More goals and assists last year than Periera despite not being a nailed on starter, playing a few hundred minutes less and generally playing deeper.

'Caught Offside' , for what it's worth, claim MacTominay is asking for £10mill a year wages - £200,000 per week
I saw that as well but cant think we would bid without having scoped out what a deal would cost financially for buying him and then his salary

Roberty

I keep reading that MS will throw the toys out of his pram if he does not have a full squad by the end of this week.

I suspect that he would throw them a lot further is TK and AM just signed up whoever was available.

He's not a virgin and knows how it works, he's also said that player coming in have to be ones that he wants - so I doubt he is that p1ssed off.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

I take it is just me, but I really don't get the interest in McTominay.  I am sure stats will show me why I am wrong, but I still won't really get it.

Quote from: Angus Telford on July 17, 2024, 02:21:39 PMIf we're getting quoted silly figures like £40m for ESR and £200k pw for McTominay, we should just move on, quickly, instead of waiting/hoping for a price drop on deadline day. We havd a settled core nowadays, so there's no reason to stick to unimaginative "proven" domestic signings. If we have a scouting network we will find better, cheaper and younger players in other markets.

I think that you have said what I couldn't muster the words for there.

Or.....you wait till later in the window when inevitably, the price comes down, or players who are better, but weren't available, become available.....Look, I still subscribe despite some anomaly results that generally speaking, a team set up earlier, with a positive pre season, is more likely to start better, but windows just don;t work like that. Personally, I'd change it. Shut the window earlier, so teams can go on pre seasons etc as a team ready for the season start but that's likely never going to happen, so it is what it is.

It would work if the whole of Europe agreed to it but with certain leagues not starting until end of August or early September it's not going to happen anytime soon. When they trialled it before it left the premier league teams at a disadvantage with their players still being courted and not being able to replace.

A decent price given there were rumours of 30m last year being needed. Brazillian league fans are constantly singing this guy's praises so let's hope he works out long term even if there's an adjustment period for him.

I'm excited about the prospect of him helping us effectively beat the press and turning defence to attack quickly with the likes of Traore, Iwobi, Robinson and potentially ESR bombing ahead on the counter🤞🏼

keeping the brazillian core alive too with Willian potentially departing and Periera signalling he's open to a move.

Nice! That's one down, another 4-5 to go.
hopefully this is spot on as he will be an upgrade on the midfield.does this mean we won't be in for ESR?

Not remotely the same position.

ESR is a CAM/LM predominatly. Andre is a DM

Two completely different players. Andre will be akin to Seri in a deep lying playmaker/dm, ESR will be a #10 or inverted winger if he signs

Agree different positions, I also do not think McTominay is a DM he is more an 8 for me

I'd say Andre is a bit more like an upgraded Harrison Reed than a Seri. A DM by trade, good at breaking up play, combative albeit not Joao levels of sliding in imposing enforcer... but can also turn defence to attack and his good on the ball and has very high percentage passing stats- He's certainly far more combative than Seri. Good on the ball and specialises in beating the press and carrying the ball forward.

ESR as you rightly say though is an out and out attacking player. Can play a CM role too but highly doubt he would do here, his best attributes are his attacking ones.

Yeh Scotts another interesting one, I'd assume it's more Andre or McTominay. But maybe Marco sees some way for them to play together and we don't in fact go for an enforcer type at all. Scott is still combative and offers plenty energy in the defensive position too and between them perhaps it's seen as enough steel + ability to bring it forward combined. We shall see

Andre 25 mill,ESR 30 mill,Mctominay 25 mill.all midfield plus 2 CHs Big Money spent that would be.
