Nice! That's one down, another 4-5 to go.
hopefully this is spot on as he will be an upgrade on the midfield.does this mean we won't be in for ESR?

Two completely different players. Andre will be akin to Seri in a deep lying playmaker/dm, ESR will be a #10 or inverted winger if he signs

I'd say Andre is a bit more like an upgraded Harrison Reed than a Seri. A DM by trade, good at breaking up play, combative albeit not Joao levels of sliding in imposing enforcer... but can also turn defence to attack and his good on the ball and has very high percentage passing stats- He's certainly far more combative than Seri. Good on the ball and specialises in beating the press and carrying the ball forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzio_cFNcn0

ESR as you rightly say though is an out and out attacking player. Can play a CM role too but highly doubt he would do here, his best attributes are his attacking ones.

He may be more in that mould, but he will likely take on the Seri role in our championship winning team. He will want the ball deep to start passing moves and break the lines, which will also allow us to tweak our formation in terms of how we set up our midfield trio. If he played in #8 role how Marco deploys Reed/Lukic he'll be too high up the pitch, so it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted someone like McTominay to give more midfield presence and general box to box output alongside Pereira, because McTominay also has a habit of being a "box crasher" who will chip in with a few goals. That would mean we play more alike to our Championship winning season where at times it was almost 4-1-4-1 revolving into 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 depending on who we're playing

I think a bit of both to be fair. Defo a bit of similarity to Seri s passing ability and sits deep like him. Very similar to Harrison for tenacity. Better than both at carrying the ball. Seri was of course way too slow for the prem and Harrison isn't the best on the ball. Essentially the best of both with some extras thrown in by all accounts. Here's praying anyway! Excited about this one.

Re the fee very reasonable considering how highly he is rated. This is probably Fulham getting a move on! Sounds like we have pushed for £20 million for a few weeks and they have held firm at £25 million and we have accepted. Not one we could let go on all summer. I think those with prem experience can sign late no issues but this is an 23 year old lad that needs to get up to speed with a vastly different pace of game and way that Marcotti plays vs Fluminense. A good deal at £25m anyway so made sense to meet their demand and seems fair enough all round in my opinion to get him in pre season soon.

Quote from: hovewhite on July 17, 2024, 05:41:13 PMAndre 25 mill,ESR 30 mill,Mctominay 25 mill.all midfield plus 2 CHs Big Money spent that would be.

I think we're going to spend £100 million minimum this summer. Definitely if we buy two midfielders. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes as high as £125m. I think we might have the FFP room for it both with old and new rules coming in with the Mitro and Joao sales. Exciting and scary times (hoping we sign well) if we do.

So I'm guessing we're not replacing BDR since none of Andre, ESR or McTominay plays RW which means Adama will get much more game time.

Yup a fair assessment, he certainly plays deep for his club. Agreed I'm excited on him too, lets hope he can adapt to the pace of things and a new system. Fluminese play a very fluid system so he'll likely have to adjust to a new way of playing to a degree.

I am interested to see if Marco changes up the system this year or if we stick to the tried and trusted.

Linked quite heavily to Bruun Larsen who can play across the front 3 and would be our new utility forward

I've not heard this rumour. Do we even have the budget for this if we're signing a DM, AM/LW and two CBs all of which would be 20m+?

Yeah the price for him was circa £6m I believe, it was broken initially by Alan Nixon about a month ago and he says we're still in for him, here's an article on it by another source: https://thehardtackle.com/transfer-news/2024/07/09/crystal-palace-fulham-west-ham-united-vying-for-jacob-bruun-larsen/

He's pretty cheap tbf. And given we brought in 47m already and shed a ton of massive wages I can easily see us having 120m+ to spend.

Under the new system spending 125 million is spread over the contract term to stay within FFP.

Hadn't really thought about it much, but given how productive Adama was for us when he played last season yet how little he played, it would make sense that BDR would go somewhere else given the competition from Adama. Perhaps adama will be the starter instead. We still need competition though and will need a replacement for Willian if he isn't going to sign again with us.

Yeah totally agree mate. All going to need to give him time for the pace of the prem and yeah I'd imagine positionally he will need to be more disciplined in our system as Fluminense was very fluid as you say. A lot of change for him to adapt to then so he needs time.

No way Marco is changing much I don't think. It is his tried and tested system at multiple clubs and end of the day it has been incredibly successful for us for 3 years. Think it will just be a slight tweak with two sitting a little bit more unless we sign someone like Souza.

Could potentially be Jota Silva if we're indeed still interested. probably available for around 12.5m kinda mark. We could possibly have ESR or Iwobi starting out there though.

Don't forget Wilson lads! Wilson and Adama right and Iwobi can play there. ESR and Iwobi left or 10. Larsen would be a back up left but with Wilson and Adama right it is defo left where we are short.

Players that we have chased for years worry me. Have any of them actually worked out? I recall us being linked to Derek Boateng for a while, and then when he joined he was poor. Same with Ibrahima Cisse.
