Muniz clearly being backed as our main striker option - upgraded and announced as number 9. A statement of confidence evidently. Good for him, hope he continues to thrive.
Gamble in my opinion, hope I'm wrong.

It's a gamble we'd be mad not to take for many reasons IMO. But mainly, imagine buying a big name striker to relegate the geezer to our bench after that display in the second half of the season.

I agree with NZU it's a gamble, too much of a gamble IMO.

IMO the probability of Muniz performing consistently at the required standard (top 10 PL striker) is about 40-50%.

I don't think we need to go out and buy a big name striker, just someone else with a similar profile, who can compete with him and double the probability numbers mentioned above. Eg Kilicsoy (18 year old Turkish lad who was scoring roughly a goal every other game for Besiktas last season).
I agree we need another striker as support for Muniz, but we all know apart from the odd player like Haarland, lots of strikers from other leagues fail to shine in the epl...
I feel a quality striker from the Championship has just as much chance of making the step up.. would integrate quicker, and cost half the amount...
Please don't ask me for any names though...

Hmmm think hell go for less end of window - 20m-25m range maybe? Especially with leaving him behind theyre hardly helping themselves in terms of running up his value by leaving him out of their US tour.

Another £30+ million  ::cry::

This market is ridiculous. Another who is injury prone. I think if not many interested at that price yeah £25m is sensible but just depends if a bigger club is willing to pay it. I suspect they might be so let's see. I rate him as do all the Chelsea fans. Tosin has stuffed us here however. I don't think there is that much difference between them and if he ends up being £30m+ not good. Anyone in Europe comes in we prob don't get him. The Serbian lad at £12m is looking a better and better deal. Can this window get anymore depressing at this point.

25m chalobah
30m (rising to 35) for ESR
10m Jota Silva
10m Mengi
25m Andre
2m ballo toure (or another loan LB deal)
18m Rios.

120m and call it a day.

Thatd be my list from those linked.

It's a good list mate. I reckon we prob have circa £120m. Prob is will these players actually go for that which is prob why we haven't signed anyone yet. Chalobah  could be £30+, ESR could well be £40, Rios could be £25+. Don't need Mengi and Chalobah as both RCB. Morato LCB but he's prob £20+. All of a sudden we are pushing £150 million. Here in lies the problem. We need 5 top players and current prices touted are crazy unless they can somehow be driven down or we compromise somewhere. Complete guess but suspect this is why we are being so slow.

Im not sure how much I attatch to the idea that every LCB has to be Left footed to be honest. There's naturally far less top talented left footed players in the world (less than 10% of people in the world at left footed)

League winners Man City have John Stones RCB and Ruben Dias/Akanje at LCB and all are right-footed
Champs league winners Real Madrid play right footed Nacho at LCB
Barcelona Curbasi at LCB
Liverpool play Van Dikj at LCB.
Man Utd had Varane at LCB
Chelsea played Tiago Silva at LCB
West Ham have Zouma at LCB

Our greatest ever CB pairing - Hughes and Hangeland were both right footed.
etc etc, many such cases, all right footed players.

Think because we've had Ream and Bassey we just assume we have to have 2 left-sided players but that's not really the case. I'd love Morato but as you say probably a bit expensive really for a backup (although he could provide backup at LB aswell, as can Bassey who played there very well for Rangers.)

Would be surprised if it were Summerville AND ESR in that case. cant see us spending 65m on 2 players but I'd be happy to be wrong if it's the right players. Both have immense potential for sure and would be very exciting to watch. Think Summerville is a hell of a young talent mind you.

McBrideOfFrankenstein

I was pushing for Summerville last summer and I'd still take him at the higher price. Reminds me of prime Raheem Sterling. And Silva is a much better manager than his last two.

Starting to get the feeling we have no idea who we want to replace Palhinha.

Just looking at everyone who is available, then the one we can negotiate the best deal for will be signed

Quote from: btffc on July 23, 2024, 07:04:51 PMI think the confusion here is that the sale does get put into the current year's accounts but those aren't made public until the following year. So while Mitro's transfer has already been accounted for in 23/24 books, we won't see that until March 2025
But for PSR (FFP) it is the 3 years to the season that just finished, PSR rilling 3 year is season finished plus the previous 2 (I am likely wrong but that is my understanding)

Hm. As much as I'd love that to be true, even if we did have £120m in the kitty to spend without breaching FFP (which I don't think we do), the new rules coming next season means we have to achieve player related costs (transfer fees and wages) being 85% of our revenue.

I can't remember the source (apologies) but I'm sure I read somewhere that last year it was something like 103% of our revenue, so that £120m you've estimated couldn't all go back on fees without factoring in covering wages at all.

Drewery's calcs were encouraging regarding getting Championship season off of the aggregate which effectively frees up another £22m of allowable losses for this season compared to last, but sadly we cannot just lump that entire figure onto transfer fees alone given the upcoming rule changes as given the volume and profile of player you've listed, will almost certainly take us well over the 85% for next season and put us in a tougher spot to have to manage. Although more transparent, I really fear that the rules changes will affect clubs of our nature (proportionately one of th leagues smaller grounds/fan bases therefore lower revenue potential) actually make things worse for us.

Wouldn't be surprised if our actual transfer kitty is somewhere around £80/90m max unfortunately, which might be why we have had so many bids (reportedly) rejected as we are trying to spend our money as carefully as possible.

These are just guesstimates so I hope I'm wrong!

Lol guess is all we can do really ,we just  need to trust Marco and the Ali mac team to do there job.

SuffolkWhite

If we don't have the dosh , then we don't. There will be plenty of other clubs in a similar position with the new finance rules. Maybe we can just swap players like some other clubs at inflated prices!

A figure of 80m would suggest we would have only had £33m to spend if we hadn't sold Palhinha. I find that harder to believe tbh given all the talk of FFP not being a problem for us this year.

This 100-120 was a figure banded about before that seemed reasonable given:

Sold Palhinha for potentially 47m
Removed the wages of Joao who was a top earner rumoured to be on 100k per week
Moved on another top earner Mitro (80k) last window for a substantial fee.
Have moved on BDR (35k) , Tosin (45k), Rodak's (15k) wages and some other youth like Francois (7k).
Are possibly shedding another high earner Willian from the wage bill. (90k pw)
Are still most likely going to lose the wages of and get fees for Vinicius (55k) and Mbabu (40k)

So this window alone - an incoming of £47m + likely removing around £387k pw. + and additional transfer fees for Vini and Mbabu (lets say £5m for the)

The fees are amortised over the lengths of the contracts so it's not £120m spent this year.
And wages wise the current contracts of the players I mentioned are rumoured to be:

Chalobah - 50k
ESR - 40k
Ballo Toure - 25k
Andre - around 25k
Mengi - 17k
Jota Silva - 4k
Rios - 8k

Total: around 169k pw.

So even over doubling that amount would be less than what we'll have shed already.
+ this year we are opening our riverside stand fully supposedly at Christmas which is projected to make up a quarter of the clubs annual earnings.

Seems plausible to me - but again I could be entirely wrong too! But given all the rumour was we had plenty to spend this window before selling Palhinha I'd be surprised if we didn't have move room than you suggested now. Doesnt mean we choose to spend it all of course though.

Morning everyone, I don't know how accurate this site is but it makes for an interesting read on transfer spend.

Or we're just very bad at keeping our transfer stuff out of the news.. could be that we're just putting feelers out to lots of players who play in CM and cover roles we want to fill and gauging interest, which could just be standard practice, and either we've got someone sharing that info to the press for some reason, or the press are just making them up.

Andre, Phillips, Rios, ESR are the level we're looking at.

I wish the club would move faster though - we need to get players in.

And we need to build a squad and playing style. We lost what felt like half a season last season just signing players on deadline day or late in the window and waiting for them to assimilate properly. It's great to see Iwobi and Bassey in for instance, but the club are shockingly bad at retaining players at PL level so far and at academy level.

Just imagine if we'd kept Mitro, Palhinha, Willian and started this window from a place of building the squad out from that position. Yes, I appreciate financially we may not have had as much to spend, but I'm pretty sure we'd have a decent amount to flesh out a couple of key positions and add depth.

Somerset Fulham

Yes, there is no issue being linked with players even though I do think that a lot of it is just either lazy "journalism" (we have stepped up a rung on the ladder there for sure) or agent rubbish.

Just because Muniz has been given the 9 shirt, it doesn't mean we are not pursuing other strikers.
