Quote from: DM on August 06, 2024, 07:37:08 AMAndré to Utd is just his agent trying to squeeze Fulham into coming back to the table.
Utd although having an interest are not currently persuing any deal with Fluminense.

And the risk of the whole thing continues. Just buy the player and pay the amount. Sign him to a long-term deal and get a cheaper RCB in like Carlos and maybe find someone cheaper than McTominay. This is frustrating.

Hoppus

Man Utd are interested in Burnley`s defensive midfielder Sander Berge, maybe he is a replacement for McTominay.

We are now close to the season start and ideally should have completed all of our transfer business to enable the manager to prepare his team for the first match at Old Trafford.
There has been a lot of big rumours but I think the total movement so far is:-

Players Out
Tosin, Palhinha, BDR, Broja, Willian

Players In
Smith-Row, Cuenca, Sess.

The squad is looking weaker to me.

Would not surprise me if there is a midfielder none of us has thought of that gets signed. And, that Andre becomes the Jason Koumas of our time.
Guy goes into the doctor's.
"Doc, I've got a cricket ball stuck up my backside
"How's that?"
"Don't you start"

Allegedly chasing the guy for three windows. Forget him and sign someone who actually wants to join us. Not rocket science.

Obsession on here with Andre, personally I am sure there's a plan in place for a DM.

From what I've read he does want to join us, but it's hard up Fluminense who are playing hardball and trying to extract every last penny out of their prize asset. They know the Premier League is awash with cash and they will keep trying it on until either we cave or their bank manager tells them they can wait no longer.

But this is the way we do our business these days - we won't be held to ransom anymore and I quite like it.

Say what you like about TK and all, but one thing they have done is learnt to be tougher on splashing the cash since the days when they just paid the asking price for Seri and Anguissa and knackered our finances for years as a result.

As an example, ESR was being quoted everywhere at £40-£50m at the start of the summer, but we got him for £27m upfront by waiting and negotiating. Leno was similar last year and Bassey too, if memory serves, plus we played hardball ourselves with Bayern and effectively won by getting another year of Palhinha.

I would guess the agreement with Marco is something like we will get who you want (as opposed to just signing players based on data or something), but you have to accept that some may not arrive until late in the window. I'd therefore imagine that will mean Andre arriving eventually, but much later in the window than we'd all ideally like.

that may be so. At manure last season  but still won without JP and lukic in the role. Just a thought all.

The problem will be if Lukic and Reed get injured there is no back up

Maybe it's because I'm chilling on holiday, maybe it's because Jay and Somerset have contagious optimism, but I'm not too worried at this stage whether a few names and a missing DM/CM.

I'm sure we'll sign a player (s) that Sikva will both want and find useful and not just over pay on a third or forth choice player so I guess what will be will be.

Just have to trust the process and enjoy the journey and not get too worked up about it, and if that fails, quickly sink another wino or two.  ::wine::

Sander Berg we've shown interest before option?

Craven Mad

Apparently Brighton are speaking to Mats Hummels.

His experience and quality might be a decent option for us for a season or two (like Thiago Silva was for Chelsea).

Was still seen as a top-level CB in the bundesliga, and he likely knows Leno from the national team...

If we're talking to Matip, a similarly late-career RCB option, I'd prefer Mats tbh.

I would not want Hummels as a starter to be honest, and I don't think Brighton does either. He would make sense for them as a Van Hecke/Veltman back up. But less sense for us

We are notorious for leaving it late, and making sure we get every penny within the budget.

We'll go to the wire with a few key positions looking thin.

Have faith we'll get there. The good news is the current side is pretty strong for a few games - subject to no more injuries or exits.

Stil expecting 2-4 more people coming in.

Shame if he goes, he's started to show some real potential and probably does need a higher tier loan (Champ ideally) but if we are maxing the budget, any outgoing will be good for the books. But can't imagine a fee much higher than £500k at the moment - maybe even that's ambitious given their record signing is €1.4m, 2nd biggest signing was €1.16m for John McGinn. Plus, Bowie in last year of deal I think.

Then again, we did spend £180k on Bowie many moons ago.

Things are certainly less consuming when ya chill and fill ya life with more fun things to occupy yaself with. None of its life or death end of the day.

I will of course raise a hard eye brow if we dont have a decent DM and RCB in by the end of the window but Im also not worried of for the first few games we play say Lukic Andreas and ESR, or a combo of them Reed and Cairney.

But likelihood is we will have those positions sorted by then and we have a first team capable of playing very, very well so much as I love more signings, as ya say...focussing where I can on fun other things over the summer and saying que sera

Hope ya having a cracking holiday!

He was cranking out top-level 90 min performances in the champions league, bundesliga and internationals last season.

He ended up losing his starting place at dortmund late in the season, likely because they knew he was leaving, but I think he'd be very capable of starting for at least another season. His game is much more about smart movement and awareness.

Guehi is nearing a move to Newcastle apparently. My Palace pals are in absolute meltdown.  :slap:
