In fairness, even after the wines I think I'd be depressed seeing almost all their talent leaving. So yeh, things could be way worse gents.

Absolutely.  That was a good side brewing there but no so much now.  I wonder how Eze will react to it if it happens.

Good chance that could happen as Alvarez looks like he's on his way to Atletico from Citeh.

Quote from: Bronaldinho on August 06, 2024, 12:43:41 PMWe are notorious for leaving it late, and making sure we get every penny within the budget.

We'll go to the wire with a few key positions looking thin.

Have faith we'll get there. The good news is the current side is pretty strong for a few games - subject to no more injuries or exits.

Stil expecting 2-4 more people coming in.

For me we need 3. 2 midfielders & 1 RCB.

Lukic & Reed can do a job, especially opening day against United, when we're gonna probably be on the counter. But against Leicester & Ipswich in games we will have more of the ball, the Reed & Lukic pivot aren't attacking enough on the ball, but if we start Iwobi/Cairney/Andreas in the 8, I think Lukic or Reed will get exposed a lot as a lone 6.

However with the fees being mentioned for both Andre & McTominay, if we aren't able to get one, I am not sure if we'll pursue another target. When Mitro was sold, the top target wasn't available so we didn't pursue a striker. To build on last season I believe we do need 2 higher level CMs than we currently have, but with Reed/Lukic able to play 6 & 8, Cairney/Iwobi/Andreas able to play 8, I don't think we'll bring in 2 unless we're able to get the top two targets.

Think Andre deadline day not Mctominay.

I know we don't need him, but Alexis Sanchez is a free agent. Imagine if we managed to snap him up and get him playing off the left! Would be amazing.

He's a free agent for a reason. Avoid.

They are quoting a lot of money too.  £80m I think?

Apparently the only club likely to compete with this are.... Chelsea.

Of course they are.

Quote from: Craven Mad on August 06, 2024, 12:31:49 PMApparently Brighton are speaking to Mats Hummels.

His experience and quality might be a decent option for us for a season or two (like Thiago Silva was for Chelsea).

Was still seen as a top-level CB in the bundesliga, and he likely knows Leno from the national team...

If we're talking to Matip, a similarly late-career RCB option, I'd prefer Mats tbh.

I would not want Hummels as a starter to be honest, and I don't think Brighton does either. He would make sense for them as a Van Hecke/Veltman back up. But less sense for us

He was cranking out top-level 90 min performances in the champions league, bundesliga and internationals last season.

He ended up losing his starting place at dortmund late in the season, likely because they knew he was leaving, but I think he'd be very capable of starting for at least another season. His game is much more about smart movement and awareness.

I heard he's a bit temperamental and left both Bayern and Dortmund after falling out with his manager.

Quote from: RAY Rock ???? on August 05, 2024, 09:41:53 PMAndre to man united then

Be fuming if this happens. Maybe it will push us to move things forward but if they are in we'll lose. I suspect United are looking for a proven finished article in Europe which is prob why they and others haven't been in for Andre but this is the risk we've been taking if I am wrong.

Agreed, fuming.
This window is on a knife edge.
Lots of promising links but with Palhinha, Tosin and Willian gone and only the latter replaced (not to mention Ream, Reid and FBT) as it stands we're weaker than we were last year, and we were worse last year than the year before that.
All this optimism is mindless unless/until we get 2-3 more heavyweight, ESR-level signings over the line.
Any more new additions will already be joining with no pre-season, any longer and they'll be missing games.
We need to stop congratulating ourselves over that one good signing and realise that we've wasted most of the window messing people around with these silly deferred payment proposals and have 70% of our business still to do.

I think the Andre signing is quite high stakes for us this year. Love the squad but we badly need a player who can play us out of the defensive third.

You do realise Andre does exactly what you say we badly need? It's his exact role. He takes the ball in tight spaces and under pressure, alleviating the pressure and then plays progressive forward passes. He is literally the perfect style of player we need.

Yep, that's what I meant. Watching the two friendlies I think his skill set is missing and needed.

He was fine in the CL. But Brighton's main man is Dunk, who plays LCB. they won't want to pair him w/ Hummels. He could do a job for us - maybe - but even still we need to completely change the age profile of the squad, I don't see how he'd fit.

DM

Talks with Diego Carlos seems to be stalling.
Player still prefers a move back to Sevilla

StuinSalop

One player not being discussed enough is Adama.  He looks bang on it and will be like a new player if he stays fit.

hovewhite

Adama for me looks a monster and feel he will be a standout performer and will take on the mantle left by willian in the season ahead.

He always looks so positive & supportive of other team mates. When they get off the coach, he's always in middle of things, seems very popular.

Fulham hierarchy are ready to spend another 60m+ in the final weeks of this transfer window.

General

Quote from: DM on August 06, 2024, 05:23:23 PMFulham hierarchy are ready to spend another 60m+ in the final weeks of this transfer window.

Any actual detail on that?

Considering we've been linked with Mctominay and André, both of whom have been valued between 20-30 million, I'd have thought £60m would've been obvious and the bare minimum..

Any idea of who, including the two mentioned we're linked with? Can give vague identifying details, not the exact names (I.e., positions, type of player in terms of style, leagues etc), I assume we're at this point working multiple possibilities.

Feel like you've dangled a carrot, but not given much more than can be gathered.

The two weeks is promising, though the league opener is in 10 days (we'll 9 tomorrow) and we need players in ASAP.
