Quote from: SerbianLad on August 20, 2024, 10:08:18 PMI don't think either one is a poor player, epsecially Andersen, but I do feel both are somewhat overrated and we definitely overpaid for them, in my opinion. For that kind of money I'd hope we'd get even better players, but hopefuly both will work out and the positive thing is that they'll adapt pretty quickly probably, as they have a lot of experience playing in England.

I'd say it's a different market this year mate. Everyone seems to be £10 million more than the last few years. It's crazy.

So is everything at the supermarket, inflations no joke 😅🙈

Quote from: Deeping_white on August 20, 2024, 10:05:49 PMDepending on how this evening's Copa Libertadores game goes, would be intrigued to see if we suddenly go back in for Andre if Flu get knocked out. I said it a few pages ago but Depay is still available on a free if we wanted a stopgap LW/Striker option to get us through a year or so whilst we spend big on long term CM options
If we get another cm/dm in I think we'll sell Reed. He's seemingly further down the pecking order than Andreas, Lukic and Cairney (+Berge and the new cm/dm if we get him). On top of that we'd probably be able to get more money from him than from Lukic or Cairney. Cairney is too old to attract a bigger fee and with Reed being homegrown we could pro get more money from PL clubs than we can for Lukic, and Italian or Spanish clubs who'd probably be interested in Lukic don't pay nearly as much as PL clubs.

Yeah agreed. No way Lukic would go I don't think. Seems well ahead of Reed in the pecking order. With Berge and even Andre added he's still be our biggest tackler. Prob pretty indispensable with Joao gone unless we brought someone like Souza in (which I doubt).

If this happens, then for me it's another statement signing of sorts... I know it's a big fee, but we all know Andersen has quality and will improve our backline immeasurably, boosting an already strong defence.

It's an exciting signing. Palace went through a rough patch with all their different managers recently and still managed to get decent middle table finishes. Andersen, Bassey, Cuenca and Diop is a very strong set of options for Cbs, two strong RB's, one proven LB who's very good and Sessegnon hopefully coming back to form, means we've got defence covered, and most on long-term contracts and at a decent age.

Now to build on this with midfield (I still think we'd be best with a DM in too) and then see if that gives our attacking players the platform they need to score and express themselves.

Bring in Andre alongside Cuenca, Andersen, Berge, ESR and Sessegnon and this will have been a very good window, even if frustrating. Andersen also has those leadership qualities we may have lost with BDR and Ream both going.

And that's not including the fact Marco says he wants one new signing in along the front line - I'd imagine in the LW position, which we're weakest in.

Not sure that's completely true. I don't have to look further than us, ESR fee was gold, Cuena fee was incredible. Some other decent value transfers in the PL:Ismaila Sarr to Palace for 15 million seems like a fair deal too, ditto Mazraoui to Manchester United. Jota for 7 million and Milenkovic for 14 is incredible business from Forest.

#4764
Esr 27m
Andersen 25m
Berge 20m
Cuenca 6m
Sess free

And still 10 days left to go for any further additions. looking like a very positive window with room and time to level up further! Looks likely that all these are in with only 1 game down too.

That too, his skillset is different from what others offer, same with Pereira and even Cairney. That's why I think if we were to get a new dm/cm we'll sell Reed. I could see one of the newly promoted teams signing him. Or maybe Wolves would come back.

If we go back for him watch us say it's now £15m take it or leave it. Sounds like they have to sell to pay wages. Delay is interesting but likely crazy wages. Other option may be a loan with an option or obligation next year for a left winger. Really getting pretty exciting if we can make another top signing or two.

We were offering 100k to Willian so we could offer something similar or higher depending on what he'd realistically want, the fact there'd be no fee means you can push the wage offer somewhat

Somerset Fulham

The best attribute Andersen has is that he always seems to make his partner a better player and if he can do that with Bassey then I am all for it.

I saw a lot of opposition fans saying we'll get relegated because we lost our best midfielder and best defender. Tosin was never our best defender, he wasn't even our best centreback and arguably not even our best rcb(I for one always prefered Diop).

On a different note, Chelsea is in an even bigger mess than ever. Their 43 man squad full of "star" players is a joke. No way you can keep that many players happy. Why on earth do they need so many goalkeepers? Or attackers? Other positions as well, but their attacking depth and number of goalkeepers in beyond ridiculous.

There's always deals to be had as well of course. Dare I say it as don't want to start this convo again lol but most of those not proven in the prem and ESR massive injury risk of course. See how they turn out but yes some of those have the potential to be a steal. We obviously didn't fancy the likes of Jota/Milenkovic in the end or Forrest beat us to them (I doubt as we are more attractive). If we end up with Andersen and say someone like Depay I'd personally be happy with the extra money spent until I see more of the cheaper options play.

Matt10

We've got some set piece threat as well for Pereira now. Andersen and Berge both big players and can get on the end of a cross.

Yeah but I looked up his salary when we were interested before...was on nearly £150k a week. Guessing he might be looking for something similar again but yeah with no transfer fee may well be possible. I'd certainly be trying if I were Tony/Marco!

Yeah this is huge in both boxes. Lost Mitro, Tosin and Joao our 3 biggest threats by a mile. Was worried about this until these two signings.

Super Mick

Anderson under Marco >>> Anderson under Yves Saint Parker

They are an absolute joke of a club. Sterling is on something like £345k a week with 3 years left in his contract and not even getting in the squad.

What Tosin was thinking I'll never know. We'll literally never see him again until he is sold. Newcastle was a no brainer. Absolute muppet. Frustrating it's cost us £30m and I actually rated Tosin but Andersen is a million times better so happy he sacked us off now for complete obscurity.

Premier League players come with a premium.

Bassey the warrior

I wouldn't read too much into Tosin not getting selected as it's just a qualifier. Wesley Fofana wasn't selected either in spite of the fact he started against Man City.

demeant0r

Ah Tosin. Why is it our young players never learn? The only players who's left us for free and progressed were Harvey Elliot and Matt O'Riley.

General

Out of interest where did the Depay rumour start? I haven't seen us linked with him and some seem to be talking about him being a legitimate option as if we've already explored it..?
