"Lyon, in their desperation to force the player to accept an offer from either Crystal Palace or Fulham, have made him train seperately upon his return from the Olympics. With little prospect of any first-team football, OL are still hoping to sell their academy product in the coming days. With PSG out of the race, the Premier League is looking like an increasingly likely destination."

From a Palace forum:

I really like Andersen he is a cracking ball player but he is poor in the air and slow. He fell out of love with us at Brighton and seems to want to move on.

He does look more like a West London player with his locks of golden hair, natty clothes and swagger. Maybe he wanted to make use of their ground's new swimming pool?

QuoteI don't think we're needing to sell Reed or any of our players from here on in aside from Vinicius and Mbabu. If we keep Reed then we've got two players in every position on the pitch, should we sign Andersen, Berge, Andre and a LW.

I agree we don't need to sell Reed, but if you're him looking at the squad he is probably 3rd choice at 6 behind Berge and Lukic and 4th choice at 8 behind Pereira, Lukic and Berge. If we get Andre then that's probably him 4th choice at 6 as well. He would probably see that and want to leave and in the case of a good bid coming in we would be smart to accept it.

I don't see that.

I have two dms in Reed and André

I'd put lukic and berge as box to box

And then cairney is slightly surplus as an AM/CM behind Lukic and Berge and Pereira and ESR.
But Marco certainly doesn't see it that way. I think he sees both Lukic and Reed as box to box midfielders, with Lukic better suited than Reed for the DM role. Since we came back to the PL under Marco, Reed played less than 2 games in PL as a DM. Lukic played 6 games in that role, so I don't see how you can class Reed as a DM(Lukic can't really be classed as a dm either though). We will probably change our style and play like we did last season when Palhinha wasn't available, i.e. with two box to box midfielders sharing defending duities.

So if we got Andre on top of what we already have, we'd have Andre,Berge,Lukic,Cairney,Reed and possibly Andreas too, if Marco still thinks him in that position could work, fighting for 2 positions. It makes no sense at all. One would have to go, and for the reasons I explained earlier in the thread, Reed makes most sense.

Quote from: jayffc on August 21, 2024, 02:04:49 AMNot out the question if we sold Reed vinicius and Mbabu too for around 15-20m I suppose
I'd hope we'd get more out of them three tbf. Mbabu and Vinicius together should get us 10 million st least. Reed, being homegrown, PL proven and not too old(29 means that he can play for another 3-4 years at the top level at least), can surely attract a 15-20 million bid.

He was amazing in the air for us. His head was like a magnet for the ball.

Yessss! Thought there would be no chance when rumours first started circling but it's getting very exciting now. Back where he belongs and reversing some of the damage done by Mr Cardigan.

Ya never know... 😅

Excellent Twitter sleuthing to dig all of these up! Certainly very odd behaviour isn't it...

Agreed, definitely doesn't seem like a normal reaction to winning a game.. all very routine to win and go off with other players instead of stay back and soak everything up.

Watch this space..

Also this one - I mean maybe Jay and I are going into overdrive with this but his body language seems odd for a man who's just won a big game, seems very much like a man who's taking it in for the last time but who knows, silly season in full swing so why not have a "here we go" moment 3 days running, Shad is in town after all!

A bit more of the last video, before it was taken... A lot of poignant hugs perhaps.. who knows.

How bizarre.

Whats your beef? it's a silly season rumours thread where people muse on transfers and weve been linked with Andre for 2 years, then again all summer with their owner and various journalists confirming we made a bid... Its hardly a stretch is it. Weird thing to dig people out about.

If it doesn't happen so be it, but youre in a transfer rumour thread?

65% headers won last season does not sound like he's poor in the air. Higher than Tosin who had 61%. Sounds like sour grapes.

We turned down a £4m bid from Wolves for Reed last summer, that was off the back of him being a regular. No other bids so doesn't sound like there's much interest and certainly no reason to expect anyone to pay such an extravagant fee.

Also from the palace forum:

"The defence at the end of last season was magnificent starting with the backs to wall clean sheet at Anfield with Clyne, Joa and Lerma. We scarcely let in a goal after that and played some of the best football we've ever seen. I can't believe we are suddenly saying Joa is on the wane at 27 so we are going to be tinkering with players new to the premier league, it makes zero sense to me whatsoever."

And

"I don't think it's that he's losing it, I think OG has us set up differently this year and prefers CBs with pace to fit our style of play this year."

and

Isn't his contract like MG up end of 2025?
I would say he is more integral to way we play. Hopefully we are trying to tie him down couple more years. Perhaps we've tried and wants new challenge some point, comes across bit he might do that.

This is one can see running contract down leaving on free.

And

"I'm not sure I understand this. He's in his prime, a quality player, no sign of wanting to leave. Why sell? I thought we would get at least another season from him. We miss Olise and now another long diagonal armament is supposedly going."

All posted since the news broke last night.

But I think everyone agree that offer was absolutely ridiculous? Look at how much we paid for Andersen who is only a year younger. Granted you could say he's a better player and was more important to Palace than Reed is to us, but Reed is also homegrown. 15 million seems like a sensible amount to demand for Reed. I'm sure there'd be interest from some clubs.

Think reed could be moved on if he's unhappy with Berge if he does come in ,then reed could go.

Proven international player pace has always been the Question mark experience can help that.

Another way to look at it is 7 players for 3 midfield positions (Andre, Berge, Lukic, Cairney, Reed, Pereira, Smith-Rowe), which is not unreasonable at all. Reed may want to move on for first team football, but I don't think you can say it makes no sense to sign both Berge & Andre when our squad is still so light.

copthornemike

Surprised Palace are selling such as experienced player late in the 'window,' not least as his accurate cross field passes to their wide men initiated so many of their attacks.
I wonder if Andersen to Traore could turn into a similar theme this season?
Palace play a back three if I recall correctly - could Silva be considering this as well?

Quote from: SimonDaviesEnjoyer on August 21, 2024, 06:58:30 AMFluminese have messed us around too much. If we sign Andre I hope it's a cut price deal. Berge is a better signing in that position on the face of it IMO.
With Andre it's surprised me we seem to be the only link.

RE Andersen, just to highlight Palace's results towards the back end of last season when he was an everpresent..

The last game of the season Palace beat Aston Villa 5-0.

Prior to that, and down to 10 men, they beat Wolves 3-1

A list of their last 7 games go as follow

Palace 1 - 0 Liverpool
Palace 5 - 2 West Ham
Palace 2 - 0 Newcastle
Palace 1 - 1 Fulham
Palace 4 - 0 Man Utd
Palace 3 - 1 Wolves
Palace 5 - 0 Villa

In those seven games they played 5 of the top 9, beating all of them.

They scored a total of 21 goals and conceded 4. They were on fire in both aspects of their game.

IF Marco can get Andersen in and we see a similar uptick with our defence, then you're looking at Europe long-term I'd imagine.
