Quote from: Angus Telford on August 21, 2024, 03:36:34 PMMaybe greedy to ask for Cherki and Andre on top of the other imminent signings, but the fact that their clubs are desperate to offload them represents an excellent opportunity to get them at a good price, they'd bring some much-needed age balance to the team, and those two would IMO take us into the realm of a top 10/potential Europa League side.

And if we can afford it just makes sense for potential resale even if we didn't 100% think we need André immediately. Would give a chance to introduce him slowly with what we already have. Still praying here.

So just by reading the posts on this forum it looks like Andersen and Berge will be done this week.

If so, then we'll have the rest of the window to find the right 'attacking' player. I also think it's worth noting that we haven't used the loan market as much as we used too. I wonder if we will get any last minute loan surprises.

Apparently Cherki isn't interested in joining us, according to Santi Aouna.

I think that probably means the deal is 27+3m rather than our previous bid of 25+5m. it's been reported by both Ornstein and Romano as a 30m total package and I'd back them having the correct number if they are both reporting it.

I just don;t see a scenario where we bid and aren;t sure if he's willing to join us. We'd of spoken to his reps before even submitting a bid so these kind of reports always feel fruitless to me. Although.....they could be enticing us to bid so get say, PSG (think that's who he was quoted as waiting for) to bid.....

Quote from: jayffc on August 21, 2024, 03:21:56 PMCherki is one of those who's been one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects for a whole that many expected to be a superstar but hasn't quite hit those heights yet. If anyone can bring the best out of him I'd hope it can be Marco and for me, at just £12m it's a no brainer to take the gamble IMO.

We were linked to him before so there's been ongoing interest it seems and he can play across the attacking line behind the striker (so not the backup striker option some of us may like for extra comfort - clearly Marco's happy enough with our options there if this is the case)

One that could have a massive pay off if it works out. Much like we revived Andreas career it's one of those at such a young age I would be very excited about what he can* do, whilst knowing that he's been a bit hot and cold so far. Perhaps in the premier league he could thrive on the big stage though, he certainly believes in himself. Marco loves a fluid signing, I can certainly see peoples concerns about not having an out and out certified winger type but I honestly though ESR was being signed as a LW originally and most of his effective work for Arsenal was out there so I think this could really work potentially.

I liked the idea of Wesley but he's untested and also blowing hot and cold with questionable decision making apparently so this at 12m for me is well worth the punt if we can get him for that. the ceiling is massive, it's a matter of if we can get that out of him...wish Boa was here to work with ESR

+1; Cherki is one of those ones where if he's average at PL level, £12m isn't too bad considering it's about the same as Knockaert & Cav and he'd be contributing to the squad at a higher level, and if he hits his potential with us then we're easily looking at massive profit in a year or two

At 21 with 6 goals and 16 assists in 54 games of actual playing time yes please for £12m. Valued at circa £20m on transfermarkt and I believe they wanted +£20m last year didn't they? Could be a steal and large potential resale value with little risk.

I feel like there is zero downside to this signing. Its a low risk high reward scenario and something we can take a gamble on. We know we have starters in his position already, so competition/squad depth is the worst case scenario, if he hits his potential, he's likely a starter, with a nice sell on fee in a few years......if it doesn;t work, we still had the cover, gave him the chance, and for a tiny fee like that (in current market anyway), its not going to impact FFP much at all......Love a signing like this and tbh, not to pat the club too much on the back, but when you can do things like this and not need to worry, shows how well run we are really.  ::wine::

IF it gets accepted and we pull it off at this price I agree it's a steal, one of those that's quite fulhamish in that he's stalled a little,  we were offering far more for him (as part of an obligation to buy following an initial loan before). Another one at 21 who would bring the average squad age down and provides us with another exciting younger talent with big potential upside, at a good price, joining ESR, Muniz, Stansfield, Bassey, Cuenca and of course Sess. Blend that with the more experienced players in the squad and adding Andersen...Man. Plenty to look forward to on paper!

That said.... I have a feeling it won't happen, at that price I suspect we'll see other clubs come in (as well as other reports that he's not interested and wants PSG or such level clubs) , lets see.

I think there are instances where people bid and a player rejects the offer. I follow your logic, but it doesn't play out like that all the time.

Re Berge does anyone know if the medical is done etc?

Re Anderson anyone know if the in principal is now firm and if firm has he started his medical?

Berge medical is complete and Andersen medical is happening today

Where did you see Berge Medical being complete and Andersen's happening today?

Conflicting reports on this - Dharmesh Sheth says Berge to be announced in next 24hrs and medical taking place today, whilst someone else said that we're hoping to sign Andersen by the deadline on Friday.

Don't think we'll see Cherki for a while.

Was reported by Romano and others that Berge was having his medical yesterday

Sheth just reported that Andersen is currently undergoing his medical

Medicals can take place over more than one day so possible that Berge's still isn't complete

I know it's a bit nit picky, and is actually an extremely important part of the process, but it does feel like our medical takes much longer than every other clubs

Have to admit, I'm very relieved to see us filling out the squad now with perms and not using the loan system as much - building a solid, long-term squad that can compete and which is young and has space to grow with one another, and that can be topped up with quality and other permanent signings over the different windows, instead of constant wholesale changes.

Quite a relief.

Andre 23
Muniz 23

Cuenca 24
Bassey 24
Sessegnon 24
ESR 24

Benda 25 (Oct)

Berge 26

Diop 27
Robinson 27
Wilson 27 (March)

Iwobi 28 (May this year)
Andersen 28 (May this year)
Traore 28 (Jan)
Tete 28 (Oct)
Castagne 28 (Dec)
Pereira 28 (Jan)
Lukic 28 (Aug 13th)

Reed 29 (Jan)

Leno 32

Jimenez 33 (May)
Cairney 33 (Jan)

Meaning if we signed Andersen, Andre and Berge, we'd have just 3 players over 30 and the rest of a 23 man squad under 28. Well between 23 and 28.. That's a good age range at this level, and good we have one or two experienced heads in the squad/team too. Leno is less of an issue to, at 32 and being a GK he's still relatively young.

Re Berge - Worth remembering that he hasn't played for some time so wouldn't be considered ready for inclusion in a squad yet whatever fitness levels. Whereas Anderson has been playing and would certainly be able to walk into the squad for Saturday if required. Although I have a feeling he would be on the bench seeing as Diop was pretty much the stand out last week.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Benefit of having Andersen in for Leicester is that he's re-establishing a partnership on the right of defence potentially with Tete, so hopefully there's still some familiarity with one another, which could help him get going quicker.

He also knows Reed, Cairney and Robinson so a few familiar faces.

One of those who doesn't need as much time to acclimatise, knows the league, club and as ya say has worked with 2 of our back 4 already. Still think we'd start with Diop for that game though. Especially after such a great outing at Utd.

He'd never come to us.. surely... but if he would.. this over Cherki for me.. but unlikely. Just imagine.
