Solomon to the champ...another failed move to spurs from Fulham that didn't work out
tbf injuries screwed him really but what a fall from champs league goals v real madrid

WOW. I can't see how a prem club didn't snap this up.....Even if you think he's limited etc in his play, deploying his pace late on in games held such value for us when he did play, much like Traore does. I didn't see a championship skint for him....what a fall from grace.

I imagine they've seen two serious knee injuries in two seasons and decided to steer clear, which is understandable given he can't be on small wages at this point

Looking at teh websites.....£60k per week. And on a loan deal, feels like a no brainer for a lot of Prem clubs tbh. I think if I was an Ipswich, Leicester, Forest, Everton among others, I'd be all over that pace personally. But I know what you mean regarding injuries.

Quote from: Roberty on August 22, 2024, 10:15:36 AMSo, SB says, it's been a little bit back and forth the last few weeks.

Was he MS's choice all along?

Just shows how good at being under the radar our club is.

Hmm, not sure I go along with this..

The back and forth could be because we were waiting to see if McTominay deal would work and just holding off. Obviously he's through the door and will get all of our full support, but at this moment he strikes me at the very least as our 2nd choice option after McTominay, maybe even third after Andre too.

I think Marco must be happy, but I don't see Berge as a key player or a statement signing to replace a key player in Palhinha. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Berge can do a job, but it's definitely not a like for like replacement in terms of the quality level.

I wrote that with you in mind, so no conclusions from me.

I was alluding to how long transfers take and how sneaky they all are.

How do you know he wasn't MS's first choice, you seem so certain but don't say why?

There's no need to think if MS is happy to have signed SB, it's well recorded that he has the only key to the door marked 'Player Entrance"

Maybe like for like is not what we're looking for because like the Unicorn, there isn't one. Palhinha was often suspended, we managed to win without him in the past and will have to in the future. MS gets big bucks to know how.

I'm flattered.

I have no idea how long transfers take, but deadline day and interviews that happen with players who sign then tend to suggest it can all happen very quickly - from first expression of interest, to being a signed up player.. I'd hazard you'd look at 2-3 days max in those instances.

We know that a player can be on their way to Motspur Park to do medicals with half a day to go and getting the paperwork all done in time for the 11pm deadline, so when everyone's aligned, deals can get done very quickly.

3 weeks, for me, would seem very slow paced and lethargic.. obviously we've known of transfer sagas that go on for what feels like months, Solomon, Kluivert, Gignac, Andre etc.. but a lot of the time it's because there's something in the way - fee disparity, players with visa issues, players not wanting to come, clubs and agents fishing around for different options etc.. I imagine that's all quite common and part and parcel of a lot of transfer dealings, and you can understand why, because if you're moving to a league and a club it's not as straight forward as a club being in for you and you just going, not for most players.. Playing style, management, location, whether they're a relegation candidate, whether you're going to play often, or if there's competition, family matters (e.g. Ream)..

That being said though, given Berge's interview and his enthusiasm and knowledge of the club, why he'd fit and the transfer, it doesn't seem like the fillers that would have him keep his options open were there.

If that's the case, and I don't think wages would be an issue, it'd be about agreeing on a fee.

For me, as a club, I'd play around quite a bit with fees if I was trying to figure out which deal I'm in for has the most legs and whether I can get in my preferred target vs not..

I think Berge will fit in well to the club, squad and Fulham family dynamic... but do I think he's our first choice? I'm not so sure.

Hence why I'd like Andre in as a DM, because, similar to what others have mentioned about his interest and style being more aligned to a box to box midfielder, I think the two would dovetail nicely, and I think for the way we play we need that committed specialist DM.

You said by the end of the week. Not the end of the window.

In other news and it seems the final bit on Andre from Fluminense's president.. Interestingly, he said they were looking for counter proposals from Fulham and other clubs from 25m-35m euros (which is quite a large gap admittedly, so strange to say it).. which means that the barrier to entry and bid we had put it must've been much lower than we thought. If Fluminense were looking for circa 25m euros, surely we would've done it.. works out at around £21m, which is what we paid for Berge. I imagine we would've offered under £20m for Andre and I imagine a decent amount less. would make no sense in terms of haggling over the pennies at that level if it was just that given the budget was clearly there at that price.

"What we have at the moment is that Fulham have given up, they are no longer interested in the player. And we don't have an official offer from any other club, but we've had surveys, conversations, enquiries that have been made directly to the player's representative," he said.

"There are still almost 10 days [less than a week in England] to go until the European window closes and there are still other markets. So, we'll wait until the end of next week.

"We haven't had any counterproposals between €25m and €35m. We asked Fulham officially if they had any intention of taking the player and they said they no longer have any interest."

The saga that keeps on giving... Who really knows the ins and outs of exactly what went down internally without the club ever talking on it well never know for sure.

All we had at the time was that we reportedly bid that 25m euros according to multiple reputable sources. - they wanted something higher at the time- easy for him to save face now he's stuck looking silly with no bids posthumously that really they just wanted something a few quid above that lower range...but at the time reportedly they told us 35m (sounds consistent to what he's said here - they wouldn't have said something in that range to anyone -they'd have mentioned the upper end). either way we moved onto other targets for whatever myriad of reasons that could maybe might have possibly been. Good luck to him and to Andre, looks very much dead in the water and Marco seemingly very happy with the profile of the player we went for and got him for 20 + 5 if all things go well. Who knows what they'll end up settling for by deadline day

On we move from the modern day Koumas...for now 😂

I'm gonna stick my neck out and speculate that irrespective of how much the big clubs' boards already know about Silva, there'll be far more interest in him next summer if we finish 8th than if we finish 16th.

Hodgson was incredibly well-known in football before he joined us, yet it was two good years with us the piqued Liverpool's interest.

Hodgson was known and respected in Europe and Internationally before he came to us.

In the UK, his playing career went from the highs of being released by Crystal Palace, without ever playing, to the low of Carshalton Athletic
After success as a Manager/Coach in Sweden and Europe, he returned to the UK and failed at Blackburn Rovers before having a good career Europe and International Management.

When MAF appointed him, he was not even in the betting to get the job.

I think that if you asked an Evertonian about MS, when he was appointed, they would say that we were mad.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

It might be that I'm showing my age but this year's silly season thread seems to be about egos; shame.

Totally this.

So. Many. Tedious. Arguments.

It's been one of the best transfer windows in yonks, and this thread has been clogged with bickering from people who need to get outside more  :slap:

Please lads.

These huge multiquote posts aren't needed and to be honest, they are doing my nut in.

Can you source those %'s please. I don't believe it.

I'm 99% sure it's a wind up post on TIFF but someone said that Steven Berwijn is at CC today so not sure if there's any truth to it - Ajax don't have a game this weekend to be fair

I get your point, however i do find them handy so you don't have to trawl back through several pages if you haven't been online for a few days

Other Fulham fans saying they bumped into him too so he was deffo there - he's been offered around to a number of PL teams I think going by a quick google search. Bit of a mixed bag at Spurs and current Ajax captain. Deffo passes the LW stats test though as a Willian-esque profile with more expected goal output

Silva: We've had a very good market | Now we need the last piece
Fulham boss Marco Silva after his side's 2-1 home win over Leicester:

"No one is close to coming tomorrow, but there are still five or six days left, we are working very hard with board, we lost some big players last summer, group captains and we have to be strong

"It has been a very good market and now we need the last piece for the wide areas and back line."

BACK LINE?

I Thought that our defence was closed. we have 2 full backs and 4 CB. Ryan is cover for Robinson

Think this is why we shouldn't have taken his 3 players comment as gospel because it looks like there's budget and scope for more! Could be an interesting 6 days, clearly we have a free run at Andre too given he's not close to anything else and we've agreed terms with him months ago (allegedly...)
