Quote from: Angus Telford on August 07, 2025, 06:14:27 PMThere's a lot of scope for interpretation on the latest stuff.

If we're only looking to make signings that substantially improve us - like Kevin - I'm 100% behind that, it makes sense. Especially if they're young, and demonstrate some sophisticated scouting. But it needs to backed by cash and effort.

If on the other hand we're "calm" and largely content with what we have, as the BBC seem to suggest, well that is Khan out / sack-the-board level vexatious for me.

Are we genuinely pushing for Europe, or content with 13th? No one seems to know at this point.

So who exactly will sack the board? The owners? And who do you think will buy us? Another American or a Saudi group?
Yes

So you would like Saudi money in the club?

Rambler

If the Khans feel no signings are needed then the person who should be most upset is Marco.

It would be a clear sign that they have no ambition to push on and try to get into Europe and that remaining in the PL is enough. Marco will leave.

For us fans this period of stability in the PL will probably be over and relegation will be more of a concern.
It's clear to everyone we need a winger and CM at a bare minimum. We could probably hold on without another striker. I would be really unhappy without those 2 signings. No progress is actually regression in this league as everyone else is getting stronger.

Whether it's due to SCR or Khans not wanting to invest anymore, it stinks. Add in the cheek of the extortionate match day tickets and it's clear they don't care about us

If it is SCR which is causing this issue then Marco will know about it and he can throw his toys out of the pram as much as he wants but if the money is limited then that's it. I really can't see how the club getting relegated is going to be of any benefit to the Khans and if they were to sell it's highly unlikely they would get their money back. The new stand is just opening would SK really have spent £millions on that just to sell?

I get these sentiments 100%, trying to play devil advocate I don't think they would stop funding the club as in busting players. Then look to sell their asset at a decent value, flirting with relegation or relegation itself would devalue their asset surely. If it is due to SCR then that's a different thing, I don't know how all that works so can't speculate.

As for ticket prices, maybe they are rising to keep us inside SCR so we can invest, maybe not a popular opinion but just something that may be in the minds of the club. Not saying I support that but we have to fund things I guess especially if owner investment is restricted under FFP/PSR/SCR or what ever it is called

Unlikely alternative view is that the Khans are trying to force Marco out as they have a cheaper/better option lined up. Perhaps Tony sees himself as Manager/Head Coach after his sensational job as DoF. I'll go and have a read of my latest Daniel Silva book.

All this nonsense regards SCR is nothing but a post hoc fallacy designed to deflect criticism away from the khans IMO

Drewry66

As much as I was worried about SCR having read the rules, seen the 23/24 accounts and seeing us seemingly only going for loan players we just bud 40 million frigging euros for a player. Unless that's a complete smokescreen it's obviously not as big a concern this year that many of us feared.

God knows how they'll get round it if it comes in but if that bid is correct like every other club seems they'll worry about that if it ever happens or perhaps the position isn't as bad as it seems. Certainly seems there is some money and they are willing to spend it.

As for other bits about them being happy with the squad and not investing everyone is taking the first part of a BBC article as gospel and in the doom fest is conveniently leaving out the last paragraph where it said we will invest if it makes us better. Kind of backed up with a 40m big for a young and incredibly exciting winner no? A member directly spoke to a director who said exactly the same as all of this...happy and comfortable with what we have but have key positions to upgrade but in no rush and looking for the right players/right deals.

And Tony khan literally said a few months ago he wanted Marco to stay forever yet we are now pushing him out?

The rules and the 23/24 accounts are there  in black and white mate. Go and check them out.  ::thumb::

Maybe there is a misinterpretation of them, maybe no one believes they will actually be implemented, maybe the new stand is making way more than we think or maybe they will just deal with it when it happens and have a fire sale. Good news is we have bid big on a player and seems that rumours have kicked off again so hopefully one of the above and actually not the issue this year that many feared although wouldn't be surprised if we don't spend £100m but spend on one or two and do the rest with loans to keep things as tight as possible.

The simple question is, why would it be a concern for us and no-one else in the league? It's not stopped anyone else from making transfers throughout the window, most clubs are operating beyond us in terms of those proposed rules and still signing players. It's clearly not a thing yet, and it'd be odd to operate in advance of rules becoming set to pre-empt them, when you don't need to. Why would the PL intentionally bring in a set of rules around financial prudence, or UEFA/FIFA to knowingly damage their leagues retrospectively. Doesn't make any sense. It's the financial side of things which keeps them all going and makes the PL the best league in the world.

Literally said in my post that clearly we're not too worried about it having just bid 40m on a player? As per my post not sure why but given a number of potential reasons.

I don't know why the PL and other clubs seem to be happy to potentially adopt it. Doesn't make much sense to me. Already been delayed once so maybe they all just think it will never happen. Whatever the reason if we're bidding 40m on a player I'm certainly feeling a tonne better about it.  ::thumb::

One thing that clearly is true is that having lost no one we are in far less rush than almost every other team in the league. As mentioned the other day Everton needed 9 players and have 5. Still need 4. We only need 3 or 4. Yes we are clearly being painfully slow with it and that has been debated to death on here but if we are making big bids for exciting young talents I'm going back to hoping this will look rosy by the end of the window.

May the other teams expect revenues to increase through ambitions of Euro football, higher league place, cup wins etc.  Whereas we are "Plodders" looking to occupy the small group just above the relegation battle

These articles going out now are all for leverage. Fulham will sign players. They don't have a huge amount of money or wages spare so to maximise the budget they are waiting for prices to drop.

Parts of these articles are correct, the youth progress & keeping the squad together but Fulham will 100% sign new players.

Sorry if a bit of a red herring, but if Liverpool sell Elliott will we get a sell on cut?

It is 20 or 25%, think that is of the profit and not the total fee

As a guess this is my take on it. Have a bit and waiting for the right prices/players in this ridiculously over inflated market to make the most of what we do have. Perhaps one marquee signing as per the bid for around £30m to £40m, perhaps another at £15m to £20m and then a loan or two. Still then only spending £50m to £60m which is low in prem terms but we already have a full and expensive squad and still fills the 3 or 4 positions we need to improve. Here's frigging hoping anyway!

Yes it should be on proift, which it mostly will be given they paid very little anyway

For me, the most important thing is to sign a new winger (Kevin sounds like a great option) and then to sell Pereira and sign a true box-to-box midfielder. Doing that would be the bare minimum for a C grade transfer window.

I'd be annoyed if we missed the chance to cash out one or more of Diop/Reed/Traore and get a bit younger as a squad, but a winger and a CM are critical to this coming season. Currently it's hard to justify anything above an F grade, but there is still time.

I would like an out and out striker as well please.

7 million I think so anything above that
