Can someone explain to me why we should get Pepi, especially at that price? I've seen a lot of fans who are very excited about him potentially joining us, but to me it would be a terrible signing.

I've not really seen him play, why are you down on it?

As one expects in highlight videos he looks good but that's the limit of what I've seen. He apparently has a very good goals per 90 record.

I'm interested in how the club have really honed in on one target here and hope for the best.

1) his price tag (especially when you take into account his injury record)
2) his position, as I don't see how we need another striker this season
3) even if you think we need another one because Muniz is still out, Muniz is practically back, from what Marco said, it seems like he's really close to being fit, while Pepi will be out for a while.
4) you can usually get a better deal in the summer, and I don't feel like a new striker is a necessity now

I could go on and on. It just makes pretty much no sense to me.

Lookman, no thanks, do we really want to loose potentially 4  players to AFCON all for 1 team.

AFCON is now a summer tournament as they've moved it to align with when other major tournaments happen

Also in the same price bracket at 28 years old.

Be a good signing for someone. Parker really did ruin what could have been some great signings for us back then. But hey - if he'd succeeded we quite likely wouldn't have had the Silva years.

Cheeky bid for Lookman - he's a different player now, reunite him with Tete, Andersen, Cairney, and then Iwobi, Bassey and maybe Chuk - would be a great option for our striker position with Muniz!

No thanks. Has a history of perhaps one good season then fades away. Wasn't great for us, miskicked quite a few great chances where he should have done much better.

And that Panenka he tried at West Ham...

That said, Parkerball didn't help his cause having to play turgid, sideways rubbish.

I hear your concerns on the injury record.

Regarding the timing, I guess the assumption is that Raul will probably be off, and they'd rather have some succession planning already in advance which I think is a good idea.

I don't know if it's a given that the price would definitely be better in the Summer. Hypothetically if he had a big World Cup his price could still be pretty high.

Must assume he would be getting offered a huge wage to want to move there

Ha thanks ;) Though not sure why he would want to join Forest given their current predicement

Angus Telford

No thanks Lookman. We've made good progress getting the average age down and building some potential in the squad for long-term growth, improvement and/or resale. Pepi / Bobb / Atta would continue that. £30m on a 28 year old would be a disappointing regression.

At one point last year I recall he had the best goals per 90 stats in the whole of Europe.
He got stuck behind Luuk De Jong coming back from injuries, who was prolific for PSV. But his goals per mins ratio in limited minutes given the injuries has been ridiculous.

If he can overcome his injuries he has a ton of upside. barely turned 23 so years left to improve... his positioning and poaching is great and he lays things off pretty well, stick him with a Bobb and Chukwueze and I think he bags a good amount of goals.

4 G/A in Champions league this year in which he scored against Napoli (goal and assist), Olympiacos and Ahtletico Madrid

9 G/A in 443 minutes in champs league total for PSV. Thats 1.8 per 90

46 G/A in 4313 minutes in the Eredivisie - that's 1 g/a every 90mins.
45 G/A in 2711 minutes in all competitions For PSV specifically - thats 1.5 g/a per 90.

All of this whilst just 19-22 years old

He's a clinical finisher, albeit yes, granted in a league that doesn't mean he's been fully tested yet. But his champs league record as I say is impressive also.

All transfers are a gamble to some extent, and he's certainly an expensive one, but the clubs been tracking this guy for a long time, so Marco and the scouting team clearly see something in him. He's the long term successor to Raul who likely departs in the Summer. Absolutely why not get him in asap if we can, we've been tracking him for years.

Just seen its in Aug/Sep 2026 so would affect the Premier league.

If he is the replacement for Raul thats 6 years younger, surely that would be a good thing

Think Pepi would be the Raul replacement. Lookman is a winger and different profile.

I really like Lookman but not sure there would be space, unless Wilson left.

hovewhite

Pepi/ Bobb come in then think Marco will sign followed by Wilson ,the bonus being we shouldn't need a lot apart from the. Odd player in the next window and have a squad of players for new season all drilled as one.

You can agree a fee with the club even before the window opens. Similar to how you can sign a contract with a player who has 6 months left on his current deal, but he stays with his current club for those additional 6 months. Deals like that happened multiple times.

I guess it would also make sense (and have the same effect) if we sign him now and loan him back to PSV until the end of the season.

For starters, why would we have one of Muniz/Raul/Pepi completely out of squad in every match? I'm all for moving on for Raul in the summer, but right now I don't get it.

Forward planning as a lot of players will be away on World Cup duty this summer making dealings complicated.  Also if we have money to spend under the present FFP rules we may as well spend it before new rules are introduced next season.

Yeah, while I have concerns about his injury history and the general effectiveness of strikers who come from Holland to the PL, I have no concerns at all with the timing if he's the man the club wants. Frankly, I think the timing is better now than in the summer. This would give him the remainder of this season and a full preseason to bed in (and hell, if we were to sign him this summer knowing Fulham it would probably be on August 31st). And I don't buy that we'd necessarily get a much better deal if we were to wait (not to mention circumstances could arise in the interim, a great run in league play or a strong WC, which might lead to more attractive suitors entering the market for his services). As far as his goal scoring stats, since he arrived at PSV he's averaged a goal every 75 minutes in the Eredivisie and a goal every 75 minutes in the Champions League.

Muniz and Pepi aren't quite ready to play yet, while Raul is performing his final swan song at Fulham. We have desperately needed a forward for the last two years; if you don't like Pepi, I can understand that. However, if you believe we don't need a forward, I just can't comprehend that.
