Palhinha (9/7/95) will be 29 at the start of the season. He is at the peak of his career. At 29 any new club will have little or no prospect of any sell on price. He is a top class performer who deserves a chance to play at the highest level. He's been a wonderful player for us and we are being offered a substantial profit. Time to accept Bayern's offer and move on, thanking JP for his service.

I wonder how many transfers Bayern make with a view to making any sort of real profit on them?

Surely there comes at point to teams at the very top of the food chain where you have to concede that there really aren't any (or many) bigger fish who can afford to take these players off you?

They picked up a 30-yo Harry Kane for near enough £100m last season. I can't imagine they'll be looking at much of a resale value there.

He only had a year left on his contract as well. Palhinha has a long contract.

It shows they will pay if he's important enough, they need to decide how much they want João.

More than resale value, Bayern need to become a winning team again asap. Onana is not as good as Joao, even if he is  younger.

A lot of teams have now caught up to Bayern, and Bayern's squad is not looking as impressive as it once was. They need to strengthen, and they've lacked balance/metal in midfield.

I really think we hold the cards in this negotiation.

They also have a young DM coming through, Pavlovic. He could learn a lot from João.

On Wednesday, we covered claims from Portugal that Fulham are studying the possibility of making a bid to sign Vitória Guimarães star Jota Silva.

O Jogo now state Marco Silva's side haven't yet made a concrete offer but are considering moving forward to sign the 24-year-old.

Having failed to sign Fulham's João Palhinha last summer, Bayern Munich have returned to make another attempt for the midfielder.

According to O Jogo, the Premier League side could quickly make an offer for Jota Silva if they were to sell Palhinha to Bayern.
West Ham United are said to have shown interest in the winger, but the report says they are now out of the race. This leaves Marco Silva's side as apparently the main contender.

The Portugal international, for his part, is aware of the interest from England, and is keen on making a switch to the Premier League this summer. In order to be well prepared ahead of the potential move to Fulham, O Jogo claim he is learning English.

Jota Silva has a €20m release clause, but with only a year left on his contract he may be gettable for less.

Was my understanding also - remember most players receive a signing on bonus for joining a new club.
Can't see them getting a loyalty bonus from one club AND a singing on fee from another just doesn't make much sense.

The signing bonus and loyalty bonus are essentially the same thing. It's a one sum agreed at the start of the contract that is paid out over the duration of the contract.

If the players contract is ended early by the club E.G they accept a transfer and sell the player. Then the club will owe the player the remainder of that sum.

If the player puts in a transfer request, they forgo that amount.

Fairly sure that's how it all works. A few players over the years have talked about how they wanted to go but didn't want to lose the potential loyalty/signing bonuses so have not put in formal transfer requests. The closest I can find in terms of information was this;

But even that 442 article indicates a sign-on bonus and loyalty bonus are two different things, and the only part impacted by a transfer request is any deferred portion of the sign-on fee

I think it's just the way the article was put together and it doesn't make it very clear. I haven't found a better one yet but the signing on bonuses and loyalty bonuses are the same thing.

They work the same way, in exactly the manner you describe. A player would get paid the rest of it as long as they haven't formally submitted for a transfer.

I think a signing on bonus is just the term for when you've signed for the club. Any deals you commit to the club after would then be a loyalty bonus.

Happy to proven wrong if there's something out there.

To be fair - Palhinha is transfer-related and one of the biggest transfer issues of this summer.
This is the Summer silly season transfer thread so not specifically rumours only. and the talk back and forth seems to mostly be about transfers so seems on topic for the most part.

I appreciate if some want a locked transfer rumour thread with a no comments allowed rule in it then by all means go for it and have the admins remove anything that's not a rumour link. But it's always this way, remember: "100/150/200 pages and still no signings" from previous years, its all part of passing the summer bud.

As FoF is a discussion forum, the same comments come up every year during the protracted transfer window - for better or worse, the silly season thread often meanders. I personally appreciate that the Mods aren't heavy handed in their attempts to control discussions, even if there are days where the thread is pretty dull for me...

If you want to be able to just scroll daily transfer stories, and have very tailored discussions about each specific rumour, I find that the Fulham subreddit is better for that tbh

Why should Fulham give up the player that they have built their team around for 2 seasons for less than the money it would take to replace him ? Marco Silva would have to restructure our playing system to a different style. It may be that if we can't get a direct replacement a style change may be that 2 players are required.

last season our former Serbian was only allowed to go when Fulham got there price,and believe if the Germans don't give us our price then JP will be with us next season as we are in the best position and it's been proved we wont back down on fees.

I am convinced that BM are deliberately trying to unsettle JP, I don't think he will cause a fuss as per Mitro, but if he is forced to stay will he be that committed.

It is a concern, I don't think Jaoa is the sort to sulk or lose commitment.  However I fully appreciate his desire at 29 to take his opportunity to play Champion's League football and there will inevitably be some disappointment if his move doesn't happen (even if it's not FFC's fault). Will it affect his performances a little? Well he's only human after all.
