Quote from: iansthailand on August 23, 2025, 03:03:36 AMPerhaps we are now adopting an Ajax model in providing a pathway for our youth to the first team and thereby differentiating ourselves from our competitors in attracting more top quality youth to our club

The academy for all its success produces around one PL quality player every couple of years, and a good portion of those will always be poached around the time they break into the first team. Currently we've two decent academy players in the first team (King and Sessegnon). Had Carvalho and Elliot come through when we were in the PL maybe it could be 3-4. It's never going to be enough. If we want to focus on youth we need to be supplementing the academy with signings of 17-21 year olds from smaller clubs and abroad - which isn't rocket science, everyone else is doing it. But we haven't done that for years now.

These are the players we've signed below age 22 under the Khans by my calculations:

2021 - Muniz
2014 - Eisfeld, Casasola, Taggart

Forgot to include the stonking signings of Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe.

If we include academy signings (over 17) that number will go up a fair bit though.

Cole and Tunnicliffe signed within weeks of Khan acquiring us, think it just shows how that valve was shut off pretty much as soon the Khan's took control of transfer strategy.

Whilst I'm inclined to believe that Silva pushes for mostly older players these days, it clearly is a long-term club-level problem rather than purely attributable to him.

Khan bought us in the summer and we signed them at the end of January. More than a couple of weeks.

But there are very few youngsters signed straight for the senior team.

Quote from: hopper on August 23, 2025, 10:37:22 AMReally disappointed we seem to have gone quiet on Kevin. Perhaps that was only an option if Rodrigo was sold.

I reckon it's gone quiet because we put in our maximum bid and it hasn't been accepted.
They will not sell him before the second leg of their conference league game this week. Don't know if getting knocked out would affect the price

Fair enough, I stand corrected, didn't even look at that season for the reasons given. The policy change was c. 2015.

I'd be astounded if any other club has only signed one first team (squad) player under the age of 22 in the last ten years.

Quote from: Rambler on August 23, 2025, 07:37:25 AMWith the squad cost rules next year I wonder whether the days of ridiculous salaries for players is coming to an end

I don't think so.  Salaries will continue in upward trajectory.  There will be new accounting tricks and techniques engaged to allow for big salaries should some sort of rules be implemented to control.

It's another rule to benefit the big clubs, and reduce the ways smaller clubs can keep their stars.

Outside of top 5 it's a changing level, you can see why after 4 defensive departures they are loaded and they have the forward looking awnser.

Back in talks with Arsenal for Nelson again

Apparently Kevin agency have offered Shakhtar a replacement, that player is Gustavo Nunez who is at Brentford. Don't know how that works unless Brentford want to sell.

What does the last par even mean, "signed contract with Blueco". I thought you needed to sign a contract with the club, not with the company. Does this affect Chelsea's or Strasbourg's FFP?

It'll be another work around by that scummy club to continue to get away with long contracts and FFP breaches

Maybe we should be trying some of the creative accountancy methods all the other teams have been using to game the PSR system, rather than being petrified to sign anyone in case a new rule comes into effect in 2 years...

Those are the cooks we signed this week but unfortunately our transfer team misunderstood the skill requirement on the job spec for "someone to cook the books".

325 pages of nothing. Reminds me of the sketch on the Les Dawson show with the two old women gossiping about nothing.

BlueCo are the owners of Chelsea so no issue on that part, however, the number of years for depreciation was lowered, are Chelsea adding on potential extensions as another way to hang some kind of provision in the balance sheet instead of sending to the P&L

Why are discussing the Transfer dealings of the Dark Side.

Is there a sense of inevitability creeping in that unless loan players we are not doing any permanent deals? We seem only linked to loanees now and perhaps the current state of behind the scenes at Fulham is worse than we might of thought?
Fans are guilty of wanting a successful team so why now do we need to have our expectations lowered!
Still go along the lines something is a foot behind the scene and you can point the finger in many directions.
I hope I am totally wrong but this has the hallmarks of more missed opportunities again!

Is it the old vicious circle,

Silva won't sign contract because club won't get in players
Club won't get in players because Silva won't sign contract

Do we actually know whether Silva has been offered a new contract? He can only have refused to sign one of it's been put in front of him. Have I missed reliable reports that this has happened or is it all assumptions?
