With Andre it's surprised me we seem to be the only link.

He's been linked with other clubs including Liverpool over the different transfer windows. I think Liverpool even made an offer, but Andre turned it down because he had made a promise to Fluminense to see out the season.

I wonder if Andersen to Traore could turn into a similar theme this season?
Palace play a back three if I recall correctly - could Silva be considering this as well?

I imagine the accuracy of Andersen's long balls would definitely make our counter attacking with Traore a very potent mix. Can't make things worse I don't think. It's the one thing everyone agrees on that Andersen is extremely good at.

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 21, 2024, 09:56:20 AMSo if we got Andre on top of what we already have, we'd have Andre,Berge,Lukic,Cairney,Reed and possibly Andreas too, if Marco still thinks him in that position could work, fighting for 2 positions. It makes no sense at all. One would have to go, and for the reasons I explained earlier in the thread, Reed makes most sense.
Another way to look at it is 7 players for 3 midfield positions (Andre, Berge, Lukic, Cairney, Reed, Pereira, Smith-Rowe), which is not unreasonable at all. Reed may want to move on for first team football, but I don't think you can say it makes no sense to sign both Berge & Andre when our squad is still so light.
Iwobi can play as a 10 too, so not really. Players who can play in the 2 double pivot positions in case Andre comes on top of what we have(and assuming Berge is a done deal):Andre, Berge,Lukic, Cairney, Reed and possibly Andreas, options for the number 10 position: ESR,Andreas, Iwobi, Cairney. Don't see how we are light in midfield area at all if we get both Andre and Berge. Also Marco himself said we're looking to sign a rcb,dm and attacking player, so I'm pretty sure Marco would be pretty happy with our depth if we only got Berge in. Not sure why Reed would want to stay at this point in his career either, if he became 5th or 6th choice.

Totally disagree if we are talking about Berge being better in defensive midfield position than Andre! Would go as far to say Andre is much technically superior.
Never seen Andre play as I have said before so cannot comment on that side of things, however I keep coming back to something Marco said after we got promoted. He didn't keep Seri as we needed a different profile in the position, we then signed JP who was taller, more physical type of player. Andre seems similar to Seri in a build type perspective and Berge more like JP, perhaps thats what he meant by different profile of player.

I have never seen Berge as a holding midfielder more box to box, Transfermarkt seems to suggest he can play both with a s light tendency to play more as a central midfielder. Hopefully it works out

I think JP is a bit of a unicorn and we can't replace him. Andre looks a lot stronger than Seri, obviously nowhere near as big as JP.

Think our style will have to evolve now he's gone, and maybe that's no bad thing if it keeps opposition guessing a little bit.
How long can you wait for a player? like McTom does he really want to sign for us.

And I'm sure Joa has scored a few decent goals along the way.

I really like Andersen he is a cracking ball player but he is poor in the air and slow. He fell out of love with us at Brighton and seems to want to move on.

He does look more like a West London player with his locks of golden hair, natty clothes and swagger. Maybe he wanted to make use of their ground's new swimming pool?

65% headers won last season does not sound like he's poor in the air. Higher than Tosin who had 61%. Sounds like sour grapes.

Tosin vs Andersen aerial stats are substantially identical, which is no mean feat because Tosin has been our best player on that metric in recent years except perhaps Mitrovic/Muniz.

His passing ability also makes him a seamless replacement for Tosin.

Yes he's a bit slower but if he compensates for that in anticipation, positioning etc then i think he'll make a better foil for Bassey and probably the best CB pairing we've had in my lifetime.

Quote from: Bassey the warrior on August 21, 2024, 10:18:58 AMWe turned down a £4m bid from Wolves for Reed last summer, that was off the back of him being a regular.
But I think everyone agree that offer was absolutely ridiculous? Look at how much we paid for Andersen who is only a year younger. Granted you could say he's a better player and was more important to Palace than Reed is to us, but Reed is also homegrown. 15 million seems like a sensible amount to demand for Reed. I'm sure there'd be interest from some clubs.

My point is why didn't get any higher bids after he'd had such a good season. He's older now and had a lesser season.

In fairness when initial reports of our first offer went through and including articles quoted of previous bids by other clubs the player has always been interested in playing in the PL, and terms and a willingness to join Fulham has never been a perceived issue. The issue was always on Fluminense in terms of getting a deal done, not Andre.

That's a fair point, but if we'd signed both Andre and Berge, clubs would be aware that he's surplus to requirements here and would be more willing to make an offer. Also as others have pointed out, a lot of fees in this window have been inflated, particularly those of homegrown player (with ESR an exception).

Add Berge s long balls to that as well. Incredibly high completion rate for both long and medium range passes.

My god did Tosin shank a lot of them, remember him raking it low direct to an opposition to have a fast turnover in a dangerous position

He didn't make Chelsea's squad for their european matches and was a bit slow and off the pace in their preseason. Reckon he's a sub at best for the time being for them.

Replacing him for Joa even with the price included is great business.

I only have two gripes, ticket pricing and our general transfer strategy/technique. On players*** and 90% of all things Fulham, I'm not negative at all. But it's easier for some people to dismiss things in that way than confront/debate them unfortunately.

*except I do also reckon Traore is overrated currently

**and Muniz

These * gave me a giggle tbf 😂

Perhaps im not included but I always debate your points directly, bullet point/number them appropriately (then additionally might sometimes point out it is  seemingly very often the most negative spin on the matter thats been taken) and I don't think im alone, quite a few do challenge the points. Although perhaps again you arent referring to myself or those.

You yourself here though have acknowledged on multiple occasions your potential propensity for the negative take (as Ive accepted Im perhaps also more glass full)

That said. Hopefully come the end of the window your concerns about the strategy will be alleviated should we land again on a great set of transfers, they may not have been as early as you'd like but if they are a clear improvement then that's the biggest matter at hand long term. The squads seemingly shaping up nicely going into game 2 so 🤞🏼
hopefully we're all enthusiastic come window close.

Im struggling to entertain the idea based on Marco's comments that Andre is a potential signing for us. From memory, he said he expected 3 players, DM, forward wide man and a CB didn't he. Unless Berge was an opportunity signing, or, Andre has been golden handshake signing for months as discussed ad nauseam, so Silva had already factored him in as a signing, it would suggest we aren't looking at 2 CM's wouldn't it?  I guess the question is, is Andre simply a pipe dream at this point......

Could definitely see this happening now those Fluminense games are out of the way. Wouldn't leave much headroom for an attacking signing but we usually go for a loan or two
