Brazil v. Chile and Netherlands v. Mexico are the two stand-out fixtures...

Algeria won't beat Germany but I'd expect a great effort by them since their strengths, pressing and speed on the wings leads right into Germany's weaknesses. It's possible their could be a surprise. Mexico is playing with as much confidence and skill as I have ever seen them but I doubt they have enough to handle the Dutch. But like Algeria, they have a shot. Argentina,Brazil & Columbia will advance as will France as they continue avoiding any strong teams. I would expect Costa Rico to advance if they can avoid the frustration of playing a bunkering, flopping team. The US is a head and a heart match. My head says Belgium & my heart says the Yanks. Even if we win we'd have the Argies next. I find it interesting that the whole thing is set up for a Euro-South American final. The way the WC is put together is to require a CONCACAF, Asian or African team to wade through Europe and South America to advance. No wonder no one wins unless they are from those two continents.

I still think all 32 teams should be put in a hat and drawn out. The big boys all get easy groups so they can rest their squads during the 3rd group match while the rest have to go balls to the wall to advance. Ah, the magic of brown envelopes.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Come on Belgium!

Bah humbug! If I didn't respect my many English friends that I have met on this forum, I'd make some comment about who is in the knockout rounds.  starsnstripes

Forever Fulham

Mexico to beat Netherlands.  U.S. to beat Belgium.  Uruguay v. Columbia?  Don't know without Suarez...  Everything else is beyond peradventure.

Honestly cannot see Mexico beating the Dutch, but this WCF has definately not been the 'usual suspects' type, so who knows?

My last 8 would be (bolded)

Brazil vs Chile
Colombia vs Uruguay
Netherlands vs Mexico
Costa Rica vs Greece
France vs Nigeria
Germany vs Algeria
Argentina vs Switzerland
Belgium vs USA
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.

Can't argue with any of them, although I've put a few pounds on Chile today just in case...

.. and they're off, with Webb officiating ....

1-1 Brazil defence hit by secret Chilean paralyser ray gun.

Seems like everyone does nothing but the long ball nowadays.  You hardly see any of the beautiful quick passes down the field anymore.
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Long passes can be beautiful, too. e.g Oscar to Neymar. (We had someone once who could do that.)

love4ffc

Wall balls can be absolutely beautiful what do you remember the Brazil evolve who would make a perfect little tight triangles passing the ball deftly down one side of the field
